  • Summary: The Brothers Solomon tells the hilarious story of Dean and John Solomon, two good-hearted but romantically-challenged brothers. When they find out their dying father’s last wish is for a grandchild, the brothers set out to find someone to have a baby with. But after spending their formative years being home-schooled by their father in a remote arctic location, their social skills prove to be somewhat lacking and their attempts at fatherhood go hysterically and disastrously wrong. A better film would have matched Arnett's seemingly effortless intensity throughout. This okay film does merely okay by it.

This new goof might have been funnier still if the premise weren't so derivative, so just been there, done that.

The movie doesn't have much visual style or atmosphere, but it does have a kinder, gentler spirit than many gross-out comedies, and that makes it a likable time killer.

If anyone is to blame for this bomb it's Forte: He wrote the thing, and one would assume he's the one responsible for those uncomfortable silences where jokes are supposed to be.

There is nothing sadder, either in real life or on the movie screen, than an unlikable idiot, and what we have with this dreadful comedy -- the longest 90 minutes of the film year -- is the sight of not one but two charm-free fools.
  6. Not-funniest comedy of the year so far.

Excruciatingly acted and ineptly directed by Bob Odenkirk, The Brothers Solomon is faux Farrelly brothers that should have gone straight to video.

    Will Arnett is the shit.

It's a movie I can watch over and over again. It's stupid, silly, and does not have a serious bone in it's body. However, it is a fun sit-on-the-couch comedy that will make you laugh and question the mere idea that this movie was a thought it someones head. I wish more movies were like this one! I love it, you can hate, it's been made already so there's nothing that can be one about it! Happy watching! Expand

I have probably watched this movie 10 times and continue to find it hilarious. Theres nothing pretentious about it which is why I presume the critics hated it. Either way, its not the next great American comedy but it is most definitely worth a watch. Or 10. Expand

I've never commented here before, and given the wretched reviews professional and amateur so far given I felt I should weigh in. This movie is definitely worth seeing if you're into awkward comedy. This is perhaps the most awkward comedy I've seen in a theatre. Everyone has latched onto the SNL connection so far with Will Forte, but the important one is definitely his one episode stint on HBO's Flight of the Conchords. That's the style he's going for. And Will Arnett pulls it all of beautifully alongside him. Again, if you like Extras, Flight of the Conchords, the Office (and don't come back just to follow the status of Jim and Pam's relationship); if you liked Stranger than Fiction... Given a nine, by the way, because I don't really believe in giving tens. Expand

I was surprised by the poor ratings. I laughed a lot, and i consider myself fairly critical of comedies.

An utterly average film with a few hilarious scenes. Will Arnett is good, but even his Arrested Development references cannot save this mediocrity.
