MiguelR.Jun 3, 200310Simply some of the best Mexican work ever. As "Amores Peros" and "Y tu Mama Tambien" Gael Bernal makes and incredible role with some of his best work yet.

enriqueiMar 27, 20053This movie is very pathetic and just as another siege to the Roman Catholic Church (after the Da vinci code). well, sorry, i have first read the book DVC and watched this movie. It is pathetic in its futile attempt to backlash the Holy Church, but I admire the over all impact of the movie. Thank you.

FrankO.Feb 2, 20067Felt like two different movies; first half being local politics and the church; 2nd half the relationship between Father Amaro and Ana character. Publicity, trailer and DVD description misleading about the overriding theme of story.

NestoL.Dec 10, 20029If you are a devoted catholic please do not see this film it is surprisingly strong on content and in a controversial matter. This film is intellegent and poignantly realistic in the portraying the corruption and shame the catholic church is in rural Mexico.

MonicaF.Mar 28, 20030If you understand spanish you would be able to understand how bad this movie is. The worst part is the script which does not make sense and it is illogical. I felt ripped off and I feel bad for the translators which try to put together a coherent script.

MariaH.Aug 12, 20039This film goes against all ethics, both at home and at church. I heard much controversy around the film because of it's content. Nevertheless, this film is educational on many levels. I liked it because of it's eye-openning and mind twisting content.

AldoA.Aug 25, 200310The movie is great, specially the cinematography. Some people didn't like it because of the critic to the church, and I think that's the reason of its losing the best foreign movie oscar...

MarcK.Dec 13, 20025I'm not Catholic, but bashing the Catholic Church has become so commonplace now that it's nearly a cliche. What a bore.

Nov 15, 20116Gael Bernan simply fails to convince: a committed priest who submits to corruption without the requisite soul searching to justify his chosen path: had we seen some internal turmoil over his choices, this film would have been first rate

63Would have been better served if Carrera had spent a little more energy developing his story and less on emphasizing his message.
-
70Carrera's handsome film offers a richly detailed portrait of a church not so much corrupt as morally lazy after centuries in command of an overwhelmingly Catholic country.
-
80May be morally tangled, pessimistic, lurid and foreboding, but it's also humanistic.
