This was very scary. Certain scenes really made me jump more than a jumping bean on prozac. Beware the elevator and the murmuring granny!

Although it starts out promisingly creepy, The Eye fails to deliver any real scares after about half-way through the movie, when strange leaps of logic are required to follow the plot. The ending, especially, leaves much to be desired. Oh, and the soundtrack was distractingly bad.

Sure, it references other films (The Sixth Sense, The Ring, The Others), but that does not diminish its poetic scares and images...and a cool and satisfying (and different) twist at the very end. You won't soon forget this one.

What US critics do not realize is that films like that are a dime a dozen in Hong Kong and Singapore. And for those of us who can actually understand the Cantonese and garbled Mandarin dialogue, it's a truly awful film whose nauseating cheap awfulness and crappiness is disguised to US audiences underexposed to films of this genre. English-speaking audiences will not realize that the actors are actually not from a single country, and are cross-speaking to each other in whatever their native tongue is, resulting in a terrible mish-mash, like those pathetic Euromutt films where British actors are speaking English to their French co-stars, who reply in French. In this case it's worse because it's not even dubbed over. And if you are from Singapore, you will recognize the cheap, has-been television soap opera actors from the 80's that they brought to star in this low budge production. The fact that the actors got awards for their performance testifies what everyone already knows: that Asian film making is at its lowest point in its history. There is simply no competition for the awards so it's quite easy to win. American audiences ignorant of these glaring factors are refreshed by cheesyness posing as kitch. For a Chinese viewer, it's just another god-awful Asian rip-off of "The Sixth Sense" (several Hong Kong films have already been produced with the exact same premises after the success of the Hollywood version), with as much attention to quality control as the mainland Chinese vendors who distribute copies of the latest pirated Hollywood movie. A film this unimaginative and poorly made should not be offered mass distribution in the US. National critics would never have forgiven Hollywood if it made this film, why be extra generous just because it came from the East?… Expand

The trailer was scarier.

I watched the dvd on 5.1 surround sound last night and it scared the bejesus out of me. "It's this year's The Sixth Sense...Mysterious & Satisfying...one of the best Forno's (Foreign film) i have ever seen." Go see this movie in theatres if you can or rent it AND TURN THE VOLUME UP!

The reason this movie doesn't work is the outlandish premise. It's completely ridiculous-- a cornea transplant giving a young woman supernatural powers? I rented the movie to see if it could be pulled off. It can't. The spooky moments are highly reminiscent of the sixth sense, but serve mainly as distractions for half the movie. The story involving Ling comes too late, proceeds too quickly, and as a result the film's core tension is resolved too simplistically. The film becomes downright silly after they leave Ling's house. The love story between the doctor and the main character is fabricated, feels jammed in. I did not like this movie. … Collapse

Genuinely terrifying and, though it does borrow frequently from the archives of horror, there is a modern twist added which gives it a slight sci-fi touch.

Unlike the boy in "The Sixth Sense", Mun(Angelica Lee) doesn't try to help the dead people. Even though the ghosts seem relatively benevolent, the music suggests otherwise. In an elevator, an undead man is just standing there, but the score seems to indicate he wants to do Mun harm. Maybe he just wants her to press a button. There's also a set-piece that seems to have been lifted from "The Mothman Prophecies".… Expand

A visually stunning, but incredibly boring rip-off of 'The Sixth Sense', sans the great performances, nail-biting suspense, or anything that made 'The Sixth Sense' a brilliant film in the first place. I can't think of a single reason why anybody would want to see this poorly acted, completely fabricated PIECE OF ......

Some very scary parts.

I really liked this movie. Angelica Lee is very attractive, which makes the movie work. The atmospherics were right on. Horror fans will delight in this film.
