The Holiday is the type of welcome diversion that only Meyers still seems to specialize -- a romantic comedy where Barbara Stanwyck and Rosalind Russell would have been just as natural as Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet and where the one liners fly like confetti.
It's formulaic but with a big heart.

Loved it! A fun, romantic, wholesome christmas rom-com which reminded me of the classics like Love Actually and Notting Hill.

The dialogue has a perky synthetic sheen, and with the exception of Diaz, Meyers brings out the best in her actors.
Ms. Meyers, whose ambitions are telegraphed by her film's title, which directly invokes George Cukor's lovely 1938 romp "Holiday," has created a cumbersome vehicle by saddling Iris with a flamboyantly glamorous Los Angeles double, Amanda. As played by Cameron Diaz with oodles of charm and not an ounce of persuasion, Amanda doesn’t as much mirror Iris's love troubles as throw them into wincing relief.
The Holiday drags on for more than two hours, long enough for even the most ardent suitor to lose interest. The premise, so delectable at the start, quickly begins to feel tired and oversold.
The Holiday is a 131-minute romantic comedy for those who, if they had their way, would still be watching "Love Actually."
This overproduced romantic comedy doesn't even qualify as fluff; it's flat, featureless plastic.
Never have I ever had a musical score move me like this one. It fits the story so well. It brings the characters to life in a way that is absolutely indescribable. It takes a movie that would be maybe a 7 and converts it to a strong 10.

I liked this movie. Second time watching it. I have a short attention span when it comes to movies. It's not common for a movie to grip me, have me watch it then rewatch it years later. LOVED the film score. Cry by Hans Zimmer, go listen that on Spotify.

I can't believe that in this 4 hour rom com that the Ugly had better sexual chemistry with Kate Winslet than Jack Black.

This movie is so Unbelievably bad, I honestly can’t believe it. Even more unbelievable is the user score on metacritic. The writing is absolutely atrocious. Jack black was criminally underused as he was the only person with any actual potential in the whole movie. Just abysmal. Save yourself the over 2 hours you would spend on this movie. Unbelievable run time by the way. 2 hours of the nothing. The same story could be told in 30 minutes.
