  1. Though The Kid & I falters as both a comedy and an After School Special, it works as a rather touching episode of "This is Your Life," with a parade of cameos from Arnold's career that'll coax a sniffle or two from his family.
  2. Arnold's heart is in the right place, but somebody needs to save him from himself - and soon.
  3. Good intentions do not guarantee good movies, or even watchable ones. A sad case in point is The Kid and I.
  4. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis must have a soft spot for the disabled kids of billionaires, because both have cameos near the end of this vulgar and dreadfully dopey enterprise; more impressively savvy is director Penelope Spheeris, who plays herself directing the movie-within-a-movie and manages to seem superfluous in both roles.

THE mesmerizingly awful The Kid & I is a historic first: a comedy about the making of a vanity production that is ITSELF a vanity production.
  6. 25
No matter how you parse it, the film is a bizarre muddle.
