  • Summary: The Last Song is set in a small Southern beach town where an estranged father gets a chance to spend the summer with his reluctant teenaged daughter, who'd rather be home in New York. He tries to reconnect with her through the only thing they have in common—music—in a story of family, friendship, secrets and salvation, along with first loves and second chances. 1. The three parallel love stories of daughter and dad, girlfriend and boyfriend, sister and brother, are nicely handled. Robinson is a sympathetic director of actors, allowing almost everyone their dignity. For the most part, she keeps this emotionally charged story in the schmaltz-free zone.
  2. Yet another movie marketed with the line “From the author of The Notebook,” The Last Song is distinguished from other Nicholas Sparks adaptations because it’s the first screenplay the best-selling novelist has written himself.
  3. Takes a sharp turn for the better when Ronnie and a poor big rich boy played by Liam Hemsworth fall in love.

All the obvious elements combine to manipulate the audience into a weepy time at the movies -- again.

One of those maudlin romantic melodramas you just can't warn folks off.

A movie that is as stuffed with bogus feeling and overwrought incident as a fast-food burrito.

It's the worst of both worlds as Disney cash cow Miley Cyrus makes the most dubious "dramatic" debut of any singer since Britney Spears.

Well, I like all things Miley does, I think she is a very talented person who persuades you to watch this ordinary but nice movie. I like it. I think this Movie shows us how people can live when their parents aren't together, and I like it. So It's OK. Expand

I have no idea why so many people are so into this movie! Ok I like the plot but the movie was just plain horrible! The only person i give respect to in this movie is Greg Kinnear! Miley Cyrus's acting! To be honest all I could see from her was a girl putting a sad face on. The thing about actors and actresses these days. They get payed a lot of money and they should be making us believe that she is angry, believe that she is sad, BELIEVE that she is BROKEN! during the entire movie I never felt her trying to tell us that she is a broken girl.
The film itself is was the same same predictable thing with this happening and that happening. This film really disappointed me. I really thought that this could be a break for the leading actress but now I am just seeing a girl with a pretty face who is getting paid a lot of money for wasting our time!

This was the worst movie I have seen this year....for anyone who has read the book..very good book btw...the movie changed so many facts from the book that I spent most of the time saying "hey, that never happened"...the acting was just so-so....if you enjoy looking at attractive people in angst and in love but you don't care if the story flows or that it is logical..than this movie is for you..however, for anyone who wants a great story..than just pick up the book..it was sooooooooo much better than the movie...I don't usually rate the movies I see but I felt really strongly about how bad this movie sucked...anyone who has actually read the book will have to agree. Is not only the in necessary sentimentality, everything in this movie is just wrong, Miley Cyrus performance is horrible, the story is just boring and exaggerated, it only makes conclude that if a movie draws attention only by an actor then is not really a movie is just a long lasting advertising Expand

Miley Cyrus absolutely ruined the movie for me. I read the plot and thought I would give it a chance, the plot was fine, Miley's acting however...made me uninterested and not able to connect with the film. Expand
