The Lure somehow manages to seamlessly assemble a film equal parts hilarious, affecting, and grisly while trading and warping aesthetics and tones by the scene.
Crafted as a kaleidoscope of color and nightclub sparkle, The Lure's glitter does not distract from the fact that this is a technically confident and often quite accomplished piece of filmmaking, with a rare ability to dance intuitively between linear plotting and phantasmagoric fantasy.

This was a total surprise. i never knew I needed a Polish musical about carnivorous mermaids working at a strip club until it happened. Excellent photography, above all an excellent script, made this memorable. I like the idea of the main character dying in the start of the third act, it kind of happened in No Country For Old Men, but the possibility happened here and it was genius.

A luscious, strangely enchanting watch and terrific fun for those who'll launch themselves into it.
The result is hallucinatory and puzzling, but never anything less than captivating.
The Lure may not be everybody’s siren song, but as debut features go, it counts as a splash.
Watching The Lure is a bit like having manic depression—the thrilling high points are just as relentless as the crushing low-tide ebbs.
There is no continuity in narrative or character and it’s all shot in an elliptical, heavily stylized, gaudily lit (much of it looks like it’s shot through an algae-filmed aquarium) collage.
The mermaids and their visit to Warsaw, Poland seems to be a symbolism overlooked by all critics and it's as simple and straightforward as it can be - mermaid with sword and shield is heraldic of Warsaw put on city yellow and red flag color. This explains nothing to me but it does not have to explain anything. If someone has a good ear and sense of humour and enjoys a bit of surrealism with multilayered narrative and mixture of Cabaret (1972), Lars von Trier with excellent pastiche music (pop, new age, punk, rock) diving into and enjoying movie is no brainer. I have watched it twice back to back and enjoyed it so much that felt compelled to write my first meta review.

Here's something you don't see quite often: a feisty, exotic movie made in Poland. It's so surreal and burlesque, even Baz Luhrmann would find it intriguing. If you're hungry for animalistic, yet sensual horror story, which is also a musical, "The Lure" is a movie you should give a chance.

Of all the mermaid horror erotic thriller musicals I have seen, this is BY FAR my favorite.Loved it all except the plot which I found to be tough to get a grasp on and follow.
