With a spooky atmosphere, retro feel, and a creepy performance from a horror legend, The Mortuary Collection is a perfect movie for stormy nights at home and best enjoyed over a big bowl of buttery popcorn.
It’s a pastiche of all the good anthologies we had back in the day, such as Tales From The Crypt, Creep Show, and more. It’s a perfect Halloween watch.

Honestly best horror anthology in a long while. Everything was amazing loved this movie 10/10 would recommend.

Most anthologies have the framing mechanism simply service the stories they contain: Instead, Spindell weaves each tale into the bigger fabric, like bloody fat quarters making up a gruesome but surprisingly snugly quilt. When the pieces all are sewn together, the fully assembled The Mortuary Collection may well be the most wickedly fun anthology since Trick'r Treat.
As haphazard and messy as The Mortuary Collection is, its bloody, ripped-out heart is in the right place.
The Mortuary Collection recalls everything from Hammer Horror to Sam Raimi at various points throughout the film. It’s less successful at actually transcending those influences, although Spindell’s devotion is endearing.
Thoroughly grisly and mostly entertaining, “The Mortuary Collection” is a satisfying choice for the spooky season.
The thing looks just beautiful, and having the wonderful character actor Clancy Brown as a creepy old mortician “telling” the tales lends it gravitas and ups its cool quotient. But the stories from Spindell, heretofore a maker of short films (including an earlier version of a “story” told here), are wildly uneven in tension, suspense and horror.
