What matters is that the movie's a blast, right up until its protracted climax.

Virtually bursts with visual goodies, and writer-director Stephen Sommers scarcely allows the actors, or the audience, a moment to take a breath during the nonstop action of the final hour.
  3. 63
Action junkies may enjoy this non-stop barrage, which barely pauses for anything but the most rudimentary (albeit complicated) plot exposition.
  4. More emphasis on computer-generated gimmickry than on persuasive acting and ideas.
  5. 50
The noisome action sequences of The Mummy Returns are preferable to the quiet times, when the cast is limited to spouting dialogue that is a banal combination of exposition and homily.
  6. 50
The Mummy was certainly no "Raiders," but as far as summer movies go, it was just good enough.
  7. It punishes rather than entertains; it condescends, it offends, it loathes its audience.

Yeah, I know it's all kinda corny and over-the-top, but this movie is just so friggin' entertaining you can't help but love it. Brendan Fraser was the star of the first film for his charm and charisma, and here he delivers more of the same. The chemistry between him and Rachel Weisz is as palpable as ever, the brother is still a good bit of fun, and the son - God, the scenes with the son and Ockna (or whatever his name is) are just hilarious! How can anyone not enjoy this? I never get tired of watching it - "The Mummy Returns" is simply awesome. Expand

This film begins to touch on weird things that might have sounded good on paper, but it doesn't translate well to the screen. The acting is good in this film and the action is entertaining. Another good installment. Expand
