A modest tale intermittently well told.
  2. As it is, Bustin' Bonaparte is an enjoyable diversion, but with more energy and style it might have been a gem.
  3. Meets its main requirements: it adapts a classic novel in gleaming cinematic form, and it ridicules the foibles of ruthless adults.
  4. This adaptation of South African writer Olive Schreiner's cult novel is too cute by far, sapping emotional resonance from a story that was in its original incarnation apparently far darker.
