Why don't the critics on this website like the Time Machine? It was a good movie with very good "time lapse". I think it was a great movie.

Could have been so much better! Does not compare to the original but does hold your interest. Not crazy about it but don't hate it either.

Watching this movie felt like I was really watching two halves of two different movies that were stuck together. There was no organizing theme and no reason to care about the end of the movie. Visually pleasing, the movie lost me in the weak plot.

I thought this was the second best movie to come out this year. The old one was good, this was just simply cool. It was fun and had some laughs. Overall, I highly suggest this movie.

From the bizzare giberish language to the shaky story and camera. From the beginning to the end the movie displeaded the entire audience. The extravagant idea was twisted into mindless special effect.

One must always read the book first. Given that, the movie must, at least, remain partly faithful. Watching this movie is tantamount to going to a Mozart concert and getting fed Yoko Ono. This version had nothing to do with the original story, it was convoluted and, incredibly, more ridiculously far-fetched than the original Wells plot. And why the liberal politics, exactly? Native Americans outliving every other race? And they speak English, 500,000 years into the future? They should have started with that part, I could have walked out right away. And Jeremy Irons should really get a real job. Terrible waste of money. Expand

Pretty cinematography can't make up for a shoddy script. While the concept was nice, no subplot was ever really explored. Why was Jeremy Irons even in the movie? All his wonderful talent is wasted in one scene, and while small parts can be vital, this was not an example of one of those. Fun to watch if you're a Guy Pearce fan (his looks are not wasted, even if his acting talent is), but otherwise read the book or watch the old movie. This one needed about another half hour of plot once Pearce's character reached the distant future. It asks interesting questions, but they're questions of a sixth-grader, not a physicist--and the answers given are equally simple. Expand

Dumb, dumb, dumb. Fun to watch, but the acting was about the same quality as Barney, the kids' show, and the plot has holes that are miles wide. Some good effects. The last 1/3 is especially lame. Anybody know what Jeremey Irons said in the climax scene????? I replayed it 5 times and still couldn't understand him.

It was an okay movie. I loved the idea of the crumbling moon in the year 2037, the special effets were amazing, the DVD was cool, and Guy Pearce was very likable. But the weak point of this movie was when Alexander came to the year 800,000. But overall, it was an entertaining film.

Even if this did happen in the year 2037 the moon couldn't collapse. And in the year 80000 the sun would of became a black hole and would have sucked everything in.

The movie is not as bad as those critics who have panned it. Yes, there are many unanswered questions and it definitely does not compare to the original. Despite this, it is thought provoking and could have been much better. Although not a great movie, if you have some time on your hands, it's okay.

I don't know what the critics saw, but the movie is fairly decent. There are parts that needed some development -- Jeremey Irons as the villain, for one: we don't know his motives. The Morlocks are somewhat understated when compared to their presence in the earlier film. Overall, however, the film is relatively well-done. The visual effects are done nicely, and Orlando Jones, who I never thought I could take seriously after those 7-Up commercials actually does a good job in his role. Expand

Before you find out how hard this movie sucks, please remember that we are in the Cinematic Dead Zone, that period of time in which the weaker, sickly movies that could never hope to survive the rigors of summer or fall are released to their fate. I wish I had.

Thought it was ok, the ending could have been better, but overall the critics were too harsh. My opinion is if you want to see a movie closely related in theories about the future, I thought A.I. had a much better ending.

Is it just me or was it the same music as Survivor? Don't waste your money on this sh*t. Its horrible. The acting sucked and the story didn't make much sense. There had to be a way to save the girl when he goes back in time...it was just stupid anyway. And those stupid thing-lock beings didnt make sense, either. Why couldn't they just make their houses on water??? DUH!!!

I've watched this movie about 10 minutes ago... It is very possible that I'm still under impressions, but I rated the movie 10! It is excellent creation, and the anonymous actors made it even better! One of the finest pieces of film production this year...

While not being offensively awful, this remake is dull, dull, dull. Just go out and buy the '60s version instead--believe me, there is a HUGE quality difference!

To a small part of humanity, a time machine could be sacred. The departure angle of the remake was stronger then the 1960's, not to mention that the machine looked so much more realistic with the spherical lighteffects and spinning lighthouse lenzes. What the 1960 lacks in effects, more then makes up with its charm, Rod's driven performance and Yvette's "Eloian" innocence. Both movies, were like Wells; ahead of their time. And both movies agree; if the world comes to an end; it' might be our own fault; that message is selden seen in others of its kind. Also, it was nice to see some Morlocks without a zipper running down their spine. Expand

This movie kicks major portions of ass, what can I say? The giant moon broken into small peices is truly a work of incredible art. I am awed by the vision affects that it pulled me away from anything that happened to be going on in the movie! How about that, the effects overshadowed the mediocre story line! Well I am overall very pleased with this movie.

Another great film of Pearce's. He is truly a great actor. He really knows how to keep his films together. The effects were great and I have to agree that the crumbling of the moon was a neat idea. The creatures were awesome as well.

This movie could have been a lot better. First the things I liked: Spcial effects, technical stuff. Guy Pierce was the only good actor of the main characters. The first time i saw it, I fell asleep to the menu of the DVD, and the music was wierd, I could hear it while I was still asleep. I liked that. The stuff I didn't like: Even though Orlando Jones was ok, I thought he shouldnt have been casted for the part. Truthfully, Orlando Jones was decent, but I couldnt stop thinking "Its the 7up guy!" All the actors that played characters in the year 800,000 sucked, except Irons, but that was a small part. The ending was stupid. Just the way he kills the morlocks was sort of stupid. its still worth seeing i guess. Expand

There were some interesting moments in this film. At times it was a lot more exciting than the original, but that is simply because it is newer. But overall, its pretty bad. I would rated a 3, but it visually held my interest longer than that.

Machine makes its look-to-the-future-not-the-past message as clear as a Grammy acceptance speech, but as an exploration of regret and the elusive quality of time, it falls well short of "Memento," another film starring a sad-eyed Pearce.
  2. There's something wrong with a time-travel movie that allows an audience's interest to drift so that we have time to worry over where he's parked, and whether he remembered to take his key.

A witless recycling of the H.G. Wells story from 1895, with the absurdity intact but the wonderment missing.
