ElaineA.Jun 18, 200710A selfless performance by Kevin Costner, showing what a versatile actor he is. Wonderful as the stoned has-been baseball player, really funny, tender and warm. A beautifully understated role. Better than Robert De Niro.

WillyH.May 8, 20059Right balance of family comedy and family drama. Excellent performance by Joan Allen.

[Anonymous]Mar 20, 20051I felt the film presented characters and story in a vacuum, with missing pieces that never come together. The neat resolution rings hollow and untrue and the score was truly annoying and manipulative.

BobH.Apr 18, 20051[***SPOILERS***] Too stupid for words. A person is assumed to run away with his secretary and nobody attemps to contact the missing spouse or the police? Oops your dead sorry I hated you for three years. Gimme a break. Can she still collect on the life insurance? What idiot wrote this stuff?

JohnH.Apr 24, 20054I could not figure out who deserved the dope slap the most . . . the characters or the writter of the screenplay. The ending helped raise it to a 4.

LeroyMay 14, 20051Great Acting - YES! Dumbest storyline of the year? Absolutely. The surprise ending completely ruined the movie. Just laughable.

-
MichaelH.May 4, 20058I was pleasantly suprised by this film. The first 30 minutes are slow and sketchy but the rest of the film rests upon the excellent performances of the actors and the genuine feelings it explores and transcribes in a simple and moving way.

Georgie-PorgieMay 8, 20052Great acting wasted in a moronic screenplay. Am I the only one that realizes that a spouse can't be missing and no one in the family reports it to the authorities? Dumb meets the dumbest of stories ever told. By the way Costner was very good and so was the incomprable Joan Allen. Too bad they had nothing to work with. Moronic story.

PrudenceK.Jul 26, 200510Wow. Joan Allen. Right above Heather Locklear now! Why? Because the performance and film was way better. Wow-za!

DaveFAug 2, 200510This is a fantastic movie. It's original, intelligent, nuanced, three-dimensional...what more do you want?? It expertly weaves half a dozen characters' stories, each of them memorable and bitingly clever. It makes me wonder what movies, if any, these red-scorers respect.

stevenr.Aug 31, 20050Unwatchable after 15 minutes. so i gave it another 15. i didn't care at all about these self absorbed spoiled people. and then to find out joan allen was completely wrong about her husband. there are too many good films to watch, can't waste my time on this one.

PatG.Mar 24, 20058This movie had a few slow spots, but the acting was excellent. And the ending, though a surprise, was credible and added a layer of poignancy to all that went before. I think the movie is well worth two hours of one's time. (My major question was why all four daughters appeared to be the same age!)

PeterR.Mar 26, 20057Moves at a methodically slow pace. In the end, you feel like it was all worthwhile. Joan Allen is impressive.

AnonMar 26, 20058Great acting by Joan Allen and Kevin Costner as believable, flawed, but sympathetic characters. This is a much more interesting movie than the suburbanite trailer suggests.

PetroMar 28, 200510Amazing movie, although not many people will enjoy and appreciate it. It is not a typical sissy hollywood love story/drama. It s real, emotional, touching, well acted amd done movie. Joan was just amazing. Loved the movie, loved the acting. cheers.

claudiagMar 30, 200510Very real story and wonderfully done! Allen was great: when she was anger, she made me anger and when she cried, she really made me cry.

CorinneM.Apr 10, 20051This film is just one more that portrays middle aged women as total bitches. Add it to: Spanglish, Monster in Law and Dr. T and the Women as my least favorite films ever. Is this all good actresses have to look forward to as parts when they're aging? It could have been good.

wolffh.Apr 2, 20059Intriguing film about anger in a family and its evolution into the lives of all.

VetaN.Apr 3, 20057I loved this movie. Joan Allen and Kevin Costner played their roles seamlessly and convincingly, and I enjoyed seeing their relationship evolve. Mike Binder was also terrific as the sleazy radio producer. The movie was funny and real; however, it did lapse into sentimentality towards the end, and the moral lesson was a tad belabored.

TonyBJul 26, 20058Joan Allen, one of our finest actors, gives a performance that I hope will be remembered and rewarded come Oscar-nomination time, and Kevin Costner hasn't been this effective since Field of Dreams.

-
KenLAug 6, 20053A big disappointment. Characters that are not likeble or engaging. A silly ending that makes no sense. And slow moving - I found myself checking the counter to see how much longer the movie had to go.
-
-
ShannonP.Jul 9, 20064Costner is at his best, delivering a Bull Durham-esque performance and creating a character that is funny and lovable. But the plot twist at the end is like being slapped in the face and called an idiot for watching and believing for 90 minutes that this was a decent film.

75The Upside of Anger belongs to Joan Allen (for whom director/screenwriter Mike Binder developed the project).
-
88A fiercely funny human comedy with jokes that sting and leave marks.
-
80Allen turns the character into a tour de force that unleashes an unexpected comedy about compassion and self-loathing.
