New territory for the Vermont director, and he shows every sign of feeling right at home in it.
Evokes the fear, anger and conflict that swept over the country at the time, but it doesn't offer sufficient fresh insights to justify doing so.
There's a nice reunion of Martin Mull and Fred Willard as beleaguered Ohio parents, and a spacy turn from Henry Gibson, but the tentative muddle of the interlocking stories makes you wish that Craven could live up to his ambitions.
Movies have the ability to make history come alive, but this dull period soap opera feels more like history that's already been embalmed.
Fails to generate much excitement, due to the blandness of the characters and some murky storytelling.
