  • Summary: Based on a true story, They're Just My Friends revolves around the life and times of Pat Black, Cruiserweight boxing champion Patrick Nwamu, in a smashing star performance. A boxer in his late twenties, Punchin' Pat the New York City Kid is a product of the mean streets of the Bronx. Weaving together themes from mafia movies, prison dramas, and interracial romances, They're Just My Friends is at once a classic rags-to-riches boxing tale and a winning biopic about the price of loyalty, and the value of brotherhood, trust, and friendship. At well over two hours it's merely exhausting, and the constant evocation of the fearsome power of "The Lodge," which proves Pat's salvation (Nwamu is himself a Freemason), is as silly-spooky as the White and Black Lodge hokum of "Twin Peaks."

For such a poorly made autobiopic to earn a theatrical release, Nwamu must have some friends in high places.

Hands down the most excruciatingly inept film to creep its way into theaters in some time.

He would release such a catastrophe? I can't believe with all the talented filmakers, money and distributors would get behind such an more than awful film. What is the industry coming too? Expand
