  • Summary: A state-of-the-art remake of the classic William Castle horror film about a family that inherits a spectacular old house from an eccentric uncle. There's just one problem: the house seems to have a dangerous agenda all its own. (Warner Bros.)

  1. Although not for the faint of heart, it's a potent -- and very tricky -- treat.

A formulaic script, a tired plot -- and uninspired dialogue all point up the real star. It's the house,
  3. It's an event film, all about flash and spectacle, even though the movie itself is void of any real substance.
  4. 13 Ghosts is the type of project that all parties concerned will have to live down for the rest of their lives.

The physical look of the picture is splendid. The screenplay is dead on arrival. The noise level is torture.
  6. First-time director Steve Beck hurls a dozen ghosts and probably a million dollars' worth of prosthetic makeup at us for a full 90 minutes, but it's old hat and not a bit scary.
  7. Offers so much frenetic fast cutting to so little purpose that it becomes an ordeal.

The movie made no sense at all, but the premise wasn't completely retarded. It wasn't scary, but seeing the ghosts made it sort of entertaining. If taken seriously, this movie could have has something going for it. Expand

A total mess. A movie that tries to funny with stupid ghost and fails miserably. Acting shouldn't be taken seriously and neither should the movie. Don't watch it will make you stupid. Expand
