JoshMay 7, 200810Great Movie. Probably one of my most favorite movies and I watch a lot of movies. The script is well-written, the acting, especially that of thomas turgoose, is phenomenal. The film is directed beautifully portraying remarkable poignancy and a great story.

FilmfanAug 5, 20077Enjoyable and evocative for the time portrayed, but should be closer to 70 on metacritic scale. Nostalgia bits and acting very good but ultimately not much more to it.

PedroP.Jun 5, 20086A movie with a very thin history and horribly quick and superficial ending, still better that hollowood ones but disapointing given the high score that it has here in metacritic.

PatD.Aug 7, 200710Truly excellent film. Fantastic performances from the young cast, while the soundtrack is spot on. A real gem of a movie, easily one of the best of 2007.

sterckxJan 15, 200810A great movie that tells a real story about skinhead subculture an the emotional enviremant the culture struggled with during that decenium great acting and nice girls.

JimT.Feb 17, 20089Great film. A stylish piece of pop culture, political commentary and coming of age calling-to-account. It felt like a very personal rendition of events and for those who didn't / haven't lived through 15% unemployment I can see how it doesnt travel particularly well. A solid 9.

StevenSDec 29, 200710To put this simply, this is one of the 3 best films I've seen this year. The soundtrack, the script, the direction and the cinematography were all perfect to the point of disbelief. Each scene was as powerful as the last and this continues up until the utterly BRILLIANT closing shot.

MarcK.Nov 18, 20076A bit of a disappointment, considering how highly American critics rated it. The first third of the film was OK, the second third was outstanding, and the final third wasn't good at all. Also, it would have been nice on the DVD to have an English subtitle option...I missed a good portion of what they were actually saying to each other.

JamesC.Nov 19, 20074If you did not live in Britain at the time it takes place, this movie might hold some novelty for you. But, for me, it's a small movie with very little to say and the story is told with average visuals and acting.

SimonW.Nov 24, 20075I was 12 in England in 1983 and while this film is true to life, it wasn't a very good film, and suffers from being yet another example of the UK's total of 2 endlessly repeated cliché genres - music/drugs/soundtrack/working class life or endearing/eccentric middle class sitcom. Why don't you make something more original?

TerryC.Nov 25, 20070This is England. Yes we know that, and you had to make a movie about that.

-
NewmanA.Nov 25, 20070Hm. A bit awkward, fast, and wicked superb, although never catchy with its speed, and never neat, and I don't see the point.

JenniferC.Dec 11, 200710Loved this movie. Touching and true portrayal of skinheads in England in the eighties.
-
-
DamienA.Dec 11, 20075Depressingly middle of the road.. Sure everything's been done before but this film added nothing to the 'good kid, wrong crowd' genre.. And it's simplistic psychology 101? - lack of love equals self destructive anger.. Thanks for that I feel so enlightened now!
-
-
NBDec 14, 20074A few too many Reservoir Dogs slow motion montages and a story arc fail to connect the some good performances and one or two pretty good scenes.

TupacS.Dec 19, 20072They're skinheads but are all friends with a black kid... It just didn't make sense. Then it gets really dramatic when some guy describes another guy as black, he didn't even say anything racist about the guy, just that he was black, and when he did that the music all slowed down and everyone looked sad. Some of the nicest skinheads ever.

-
IainM.Oct 28, 200710An accurate portrayal of skinheads.

RichB.Nov 16, 20076I liked the movie for the most part. It felt very authentic and very well done characters. On the other hand I felt it was lacking a bit in plot. Nothing honestly happens in this movie and after watching it I felt a little let down.

Aug 31, 201010Shane Meadows perfectly captures the 80s in England with his unflinching portrayal of the far-right movements of the time and the innocence of youth. Thomas Turgoose and Stephen Graham put in amazing lead roles which captivated me from the start.

Dec 24, 20118Gritty but believable and the characters are superbly acted. A true sense of what growing up in the miserable era of the early eighties was like. The concept has been done a million times over but rarely with this much aplomb.
-
Feb 9, 201210Brilliant. Almost every scene is perfection. Contains intense scenes that slowly creep up on you. Right up there with Trainspotting I have to admit. Now i want to see the series that came after.

70With its knockout lead perfs and taut if slightly familiar construction, this '80s-set dramedy about a skinhead gang reps Meadows' most fluently made film so far.
-
Facile pop psychology is the real tragedy here, a double disappointment given the film's smart take on pop culture.
-
75Sad, menacing, empathetic story.
