What makes the film special is the talk--a marvelous scene around a table in which a typical oral tale gets sideswiped by someone correcting a film quote ("We need a bigger boat") and the other scenes in which these guys interact. For all of his personal familiarity with the material, Mr. Provenzano has turned out a movie that largely owes its tone and style to other movies.

  3. A decently crafted, standard Mafia blood bath with a few new wrinkles and an aura of authenticity.
