It's alright. I don't think it's quite up to the standard of Don Bluth's earlier films like The Land Before Time, but it's not bad. The CGI and animation blend together fairly well. I always found the film rather thought provoking, because I first watched it while I was playing Mass Effect, and one central idea in the film captured my imagination. Cause see, humanity at the beginning of the movie almost goes extinct. They're scattered to the far reaches of the galaxy as refugees. The main character, a young teenage male named Cale Tucker, is stuck working at an asteroid salvage yard. He's kinda lonely there, surrounded by aliens. Luckily, he eventually encounters an attractive human girl named Akima. Now, what I always wondered was what would have happened if he had never lucked into finding another human girl? What if he really was alone on that alien asteroid facility? This is a teenage guy, after all. How do you deal with being horny all the time without having any chance for sex? Sure, you can masturbate, but how long can you do that before pondering the possibility of having sex with an alien girl? It's kinda gross and disturbing, because that would be bestiality, but eventually you'd have to consider it, right? The months and years pass by. Is he able to hold onto his humanity? Will he give into his hormones and try to romance and **** an alien? It's something to think about. Expand

This movie has an awesome storyline that could be pheasable in a real live movie. not only do the characters seem real to life but the plot is never boring and brings a sense of longing we all have to discover what lies beyond our earth, but also why we should treasure it.

I feel compelled to fight a monstrous injustice. People keep insisting Titan AE is not a good film. Even the normally-reliable William Gallagher on BBCi gave it one out of five. On the contrary. Titan AE is no great classic, but it's a great little space opera o' shooters and ships, corridors and big old humanoid dingo chaps with loose skin. It won't tax your brain, but by THUNDER it'll awaken your adrenalin. Besides, Joss Whedon was involved in the prelimanary storyboard, and nothing that Whedon touches can possibly be bad in any way, shape or form. Expand

This movie is the definition of the Animation Age Ghetto. Its target audience wasn't interested in it, so it flopped. Its not a kids movie; its a movie for preteens and teens. But it didn't really quite ever make up its mind. The movie is overall quite decent; while it got poor reviews its really not bad. Its a decent movie. It also has the ultimate bit of Fridge Logic - years after the fact, I finally got that the Drej, the energy beings, had been entirely justified in attacking the Earth as they ended up doing exactly what the Drej were afraid of, using it as a weapon against them. The movie is not amazing, but its not terrible. It has a decent enough plot, and the characters are fine. Its worth watching, but its not a must-see movie. Expand

It's a great movie with an excellent soundtrack. The voice acting is top notch with people like Matt Damon, Bull Pullman, and Nathan Lane. The characters were fun and you can relate to them in some way. I believe that this is one of the most underrated movies of all time. It was a fun concept and the CGI was awesome. The only complaint I have is that it should have been live action or 100% animation, not something in between. It was a little disorienting to watch because of the mix of CGI and hand drawn cartoons. If you can get past that, this is a great film for any Science Fiction fan! Expand

What i found most jarring about titan ae, however, was the uneasy blending of traditional animation with state of the art cgi. i suppose it suggests cgi isn't advanced enough to create fully satisfying human characters. but it also suggests the makers of this movie didn't have a clue as to what works and what doesn't. the two styles of animation undermine the other and we never lose ourselves into a congruently believable world. do i want to see a turtle-faced creature that looks like peter lorre and a squatting half kangaroo girl(both belonging to saturday morning cartoons)in a movie that promises the coolest in the latest sci-fi technology? It nails the visuals almost perfectly, save for some drej parts. Casting is nice. Unfortunately, hollywood is spilled all over everything else, especially story, characters and dialogue. It's not a BAD movie, but a mixed bag that ought to be named Cliche A.E.. It starts off decent, but once that plot twist enters, the cliches almost destroy the film.

Don't listen to the critics. They're trying to get you to agree with them. Titan A.E. is a fantastic traditionally-animated flick with fantastic visuals, a great story and a fantastic voice cast (Matt Damon, Drew Barrymore, Bill Pullman and John Leguizamo, more specifically). Sure, it's not "Star Wars" or "Planet of the Apes", but still, it's worth watching. I think I even saw a cult following on this movie. Expand

Even now in 2012, this is still a visually stunning movie. It has memorable characters, good humour and an action-packed story line. Absolute recommendation for any Sci-fi fan. I'm deducting points for the horrible immersion-breaking vocals in the sound track, though!

“Titan A.E. (After Earth)” is a pretty basic movie in terms of story. It is an action adventure sci-fi pic about the human condition and finding where you belong. The characters set out on an adventure to find a space ship that would ultimately transform into a planet for the human race, who are become extinct. However the film never reaches the level of emotional involvement that is required for a film about the end of the human race. As the audience I can’t sense the desperation for their cause. Another thing is that the movie is pretty cliched, I have nothing against cliches, but man can you see almost everything coming. You know who the bad guy is, the twists barely catch you off guard, and there isn’t enough in the story to care about it. Another low part of the movie is its characters. It’s your typical character archetypes, the jaded hero, the love interest, the funny side character that have little to do with the plot, and a threat. While the side characters aren’t all that great, the hero is fairly interesting, love interest, and threat are decent to good enough. Cale is a decent enough hero, but their isn’t anything that takes him to the next level as the hero. He is likable, but fairly bland. The love interest Akima is pretty cool. She’s smart and can be a fend for herself. The threat, the drej, are interesting, but are probably the best characters. They pose such a threat that at time I feel like the characters are screwed. Where the movie lacks in story and character, it makes up for it with its animation. This movie is Don Bluth’s magnum-opus in terms of animation. The visuals are stunning and the character animations are fluid and beautiful. I was constantly amazed by the visuals even though they are over a decade old. The way cgi and hand-drawn animation blended together was something “aw” at. I really like the steam punk look of the film. The visuals are magnificent and it was the one thing keeping my attention. The music is used well to enhance the overall movie. It adds the right amount of emotion to keep you invested, which is lacking in the characters and story. Songs are quite good for the movie, but forgettable. Overall, “Titan A.E.” is a decent movie that you can have a good enough time with. While the story and characters are weak, the animation and music make up for it. I give it a 3/5, gorgeous animation and good soundtrack that are dragged down by sub-par story and characters. “Alrightness” Expand

  1. Like watching a 90-minute game of the video game Asteroids - all bang and no buck.
  2. Visually compelling, relentlessly loud and so shallow you need just a fragment of your brain to follow it.
  3. It moves so fast you almost forget it leaves the characters in its wake.
