Tokyo Godfathers just might be the equivalent of "It's a Wonderful Life" or, to be hip and new-millennium about it, "Elf."
As with the greatest animated films, the triumph of Kon's work lies not just in its beauty and singularly sophisticated storytelling but in how that beauty and storytelling combine to give the films a sting so human you can forget you're watching a cartoon.

I watched this movie every Christmas because it's my favorite Christmas movie beside Merry Christmas Mr Lawrence which is a very different kind of Christmas **** thing I always go back to nice story about a found family of homeless people a really amazing character animation and especially the faces and it's just 90 minutes makes it a very nice and easy Movie to put in whenever it is possible when it's **** cast is so lovable and facial expressions are so good and the way it shows the underside of Japanese society with gangsters homeless people and illegal immigrants. It's just so awesome to see things you do not see often in Japanese ****'s impossible to get bored watching this because the pacing is so fast it just want you to go from place to place to place from gangsters to drag queens to hospital to baby to suicide through everything the story is so well designed that it goes in a flash if you're not **** story and soundtrack is so good especially is a story because it doesn't feel like it waste your time all part of it is important for what is going to happen.This is the most fun Christmas movie you can watch so do it.

It's a touching movie that, like the best animes, transcends the limitations of the genre.
Gorgeous animated film.
Like the comic strips of Ben Katchor, Tokyo Godfathers artfully appreciates the beauty and humanity in junked lives and landscapes.
The story takes some kooky turns and, at times, delves into the supernatural.
No amount of shoehorned-in razzle-dazzle can keep this forced fable from feeling like a shadow of Kon's early work.
Given Satoshi Kon's previous works you wouldn't expect a Christmas-centric comedy from him to work at all, but this film had me grinning from ear to ear.
The art and animation here is absolutely top notch, getting to see this on the big screen was a delight. The writing is sharp and witty, and the film is as touching as it is hilarious with a dynamic and well-rounded cast.
As a fan of the original I was worried that the English actors wouldn't hold a candle to the Japanese version but this dub knocked it out of the park, all the characters feel authentic to their original language counterparts and the performances are great.
There's a reason Satoshi Kon is a legend in the anime industry, this sits right next to all his other works as an all-time classic.

I was too young at the time to take in some of the themes of this great movie and there are a few. But the main one that lingered with me well after I saw it is how single moments in our past can effect us so much, it defines who we are for our whole lives. But if those moments were ones of shame, failure, or trauma, there is absolutely no reason we can't come back from that, and live a better life than what we are now.

I didn't know anything about Tokyo Godfathers before I watched it, only the basic premise; 3 homeless people find a little baby in a junkyard. By the time the 2act starts to kick in I was already fell in love with all the characters and was expecting what is going to happen next, I think that one of the strong points of this movie is how it manages to maintain you surprised even when you "solve its mistery" and it does it in such an organic and natural way that it almost look easy. The writing and the animation are amazing, is a hopeful movie about so sad subjects, that really touches you. If you haven't seen it, give it a go, perfect for Christmas time.

"Tokyo godfathers" tells you a better story about family, love, people and life in 1h 32 than all of the movie on these subject made by DreamWorks Animation, 20th century Fox and Universal put together, for a 100th of what one of their movie costs.
It's simple, the first time I saw that film, I left the theater and felt much lighter than I was when I stepped in.
