Very creative, visionary even. Gotta give props for creating a dystopian kid's movie. Plenty of awesome nods to Star Wars, Space Odyssey, and even the Matrix. Also some funny inside humor from Mac, like the technologically superior Eve's shiny exterior, the purple cosmos (Leopard) and Wall-e's chime. A great message, I would say this is a very important film for our current social dialogue. Expand

Great story, great characters, great non-dialogue. Most film companies wouldn't touch a story like this with a 10 foot pole. Not because it tackles about 5 controversial topics (pervasive obesity, negative effects of capitalism, corporations running the government, rampant consumerism, and non-gender based relationships) but because it tries to do with with such a bleak backdrop, unsnuggly characters, and no definitive bad guy. Great work PIXAR! Expand

An unmitigated flop. I'm a big Pixar fan. Toy Story was pure genius. This one is a disturbingly bad bore. Pointless, yet obtusely preachy. Kind of like, while facing a difficult situation, running around yelling, "Do something!" Animation was great in places but uneven. Eve looks like she was dragged in from another movie concept. Sad to say, but it may be time to sell the Disney stock. A bust of epic proportions. Can someone tell me why this movie was made? Never heard a laugh from the audience. Not even a chuckle. The crowd simply stared at the screen. I swear I heard snoring. Expand

Another 100% score for Pixar. Fantastic kid and adult movie - nailing it again to perfectly entertain at both levels. My 5 and 6 year old kids laughed and so did we. Not too much suspense which my sensitive kids are not a fan of. Complex yet simple story line and the graphics were stunning enough to keep my disbelief suspended from the animation!

What made this movie so great was that it wasn't just about a lonely robot looking for love. It was also about a driod's struggle between duty and her emotions, the man who wanted to live life, the devastation on the environment that could happen in the future, the emotionless robot who would follow orders even if it was wrong, and human-dependecy in the future. The story of WALL-E proves to be more orginal than a father clownfish trying to search for his son, the rat that wanted to cook, and the car that learned good values. Also, there was great sound mixing by Ben Brutt. There was visuals as artistic as Finding Nemo. I wouldn't count on it but... watching WALL-E marks the first time I believe an animated film deserves an oscar for Best Picture. Expand

Just because it is rated G does not mean that it is for children. There is just no violence, suggestive themes, or anything of that matter. Just a brilliant, clean movie. I am a 17 year old guy and this movie still wrenched my heart till the very end. The animation is the best there is so far, and while the the love part of the plot was a tad cheesy...it was necessary and great. The movie is so convincing that earth will become of what is portrayed that it scared me the night after I watched it, thinking "this is might actually happen in 750 years." Doubt any other movie will top this in 2008. Expand

For me, this is the best film I've ever seen. It's a boy meets girl story, with surprisingly little dialogue, with a superb blend of comedy, action and adventure, with a message for people of today buried under all the amusing animations. For me, its a perfect 10, because its a perfect blend of story-telling, future-prediction, romance, action and adventure. I cannot rate this film highly enough... Loved it. One of my favorite Pixar movies, and may after time surpass Finding Nemo (but not the almighty Toy Story). Excellent. And John: Those people that you refer to- you know, the ones that Pixar paid- those would be called actors, producers, directors, etc. They are the reason this movie has the acclaim it has, not bribed journalists. It's frustrating to see comments like that of "D.C." The only thing that was bad about "The Dark Knight" is that it created an overwhelming swarm of goons like this fellow who feel the need to compare it to every stinkin' movie that gets a good review. What a chump. Getting back to what this page is for, "Wall-E" was a great film. It did everything perfectly: comedy, romance, drama, satire, and action. No other film this summer can say that. Expand

I must say, I am always astounded by the quality of Pizar's movies. From the stellar, breathtaking visuals to the amazing stories. Seriously, it seems like Pixar is one of the only companies that actually knows how to tell a great story and focuses on that, rather than Dreamworks, who just relies on quick, superficial laughs to carry its own horrendous weight (although they have come out with some masterpieces despite themselves). I had extremely high expectations for this movie, and so I was worried I would be disappointed, but this movie exceeded my wildest dreams. The characters are instantly lovable, the story is fascinating, and the movie itself is so beautifully moving, one cannot but help call it a masterpiece. Beautifully rendered animation and a story line that is unexpected. The visual and philosophical references to Kubrick abound, and I came away from the film feeling like I had seen the half brother of the Kubrick/Spielberg project "A.I." I imagine that this film will look stunning on Blu-ray in a few months. I still think Pixar and Stanton have the perfect film up their sleeves on the horizon, but Wall-E is the best I've seen in this particular genre. Expand

I'm sure theres some kind of subliminal message or moral to the story but, It could have been more entertaining, this movie is up there with one of the worst movies I have ever seen..... Nowhere near deserving of the high praise that it seems to be receiving. This movie has WAAAaaaayyy too much preaching - love the environment, say no to laziness, get exercise, say no to bigbox stores, etc.. the list goes on... and on... and on... In one of those little ironies that life sometimes seems to consist of nothing but, this was released to theaters nationwide just a few days after the American Film Institute's "10 Best of 10" TV special, in which the AFI listed what its members thought to be the ten best English-language film examples of each of ten different genres. It's a no-brainer that Pixar's latest, a futuristic tale of a scruffy little trash-collecting robot left behind on earth to do its job long after all the human residents left, who falls in love with a sleeker model, would've been a strong Top 10 contender in both the Animation and Science Fiction genres, but consider the AFI's #1 choice for Best Romantic Comedy: City Lights, the 1931 Charlie Chaplin film that Chaplin resolutely made as a silent even after silent movies had gone the way of the passenger pigeon. Well, WALL-E (the first two thirds, anyway) is PRACTICALLY a silent: there's no real dialogue since WALL-E's and EVE's conversations consist entirely of whirrs, clicks, beeps and the repitition of their own and each other's names, but that's all you need--if WALL-E's pursuit of EVE doesn't steal your heart, then ANY famous screen robot--say, Robby or Gort--has more of one than you do. It goes without saying that Pixar keeps raising the bar (and, bless 'em, has caused rival animation studios to up THEIR games: DreamWorks' Kung Fu Panda and Blue Sky's Horton Hears A Who! represent their best efforts yet) but who would've guessed that the visuals of our deserted planet so effortlessly blend live-action and animation art, or at least that's what I THINK they do, that Robert Zemeckis, who's been trying hard for a similar effect with both The Polar Express and Beowulf, must've been in the theater feverishly taking notes during repeated viewings, or that WALL-E would replicate and enhance so many of Stanley Kubrick's themes and ideas, while adding in abundance the one quality that Kubrick completely lacks (except in Spartacus, which he disowned): warmth? The first two acts of WALL-E are so extraordinary that the final third, in which WALL-E and EVE learn where the earthlings went (and we get treated to The Obligatory John Ratzenberger Pixar Vocal Appearance) is inevitably going to be something of a letdown, and indeed it's just a bit too preachy and on-the-nose for me to completely wrap myself around it, but even here it's hard not to admire writer-director Andrew Stanton's utter chutzpah. His critique of a spoiled and overly-indulged consumerist society is pretty hard to resist, especially given that Pixar and Disney are themselves huge corporations relying on huge DVD and video-game sales of films like WALL-E, whose partial message is, "Hey, you kids, turn off that damn TV/computer and go outside and get some exercise!" And I love the way that WALL-E's depiction of "Buy-N-Large" is no doubt causing blood pressures to rise in the boardrooms of a certain mega-concern, who can certainly refuse to sell Robert Greenwald's documentary Wal-Mart: The High Cost of Low Price but knows that boycotting DVDs of THIS movie would be absolute financial stupidity, even if most first graders in the audience have no problem making certain connections. One more note concerning the title character and hero: a few years ago I commented on this site that one of the many problems with Blue Sky's Robots was that it's impossible to make sharp-edged, metallic, non-furry creatures (or, more accurately, creations) cuddly and lovable. It takes a big man to admit he's wrong. Call me big. Expand

I know I put a rating on this movie before (keep scrolling down) but it appears to me that some people cannot find out what the story uses: body language. It's excessive use of body language and minimal use of vocal acting is what makes this movie so popular and highly rated by critics. It's like watching a silent movie without the text. Observe the movie. Don't just watch it. If you cannot do this, then you might as well not watch the movie. Expand

When I saw the preview I thought it looked horrible, and i was right. Pixar is usually a step ahead of other animated films, but this was downright bad. The whole movie was robots saying names in a funny way.The comedy in this film was so elementary, i couldn't help but laughing at how hard they were trying to make it funny, and how not funny it was. The only people who like this movie are either girls who think its "cute" or guys who think there cool for liking a Pixar film. Ratatoille is by far Pixars best film, this doesn't even come close. A masterpiece! Pixars best by far. An animated film that surpasses the typical animation fare and even live-action fare. Emotional, funny, touching, and fun. A welcome reprieve from the nonsensical low-brow animated and live action films that inundates theaters nowadays. Those dissing this are of the minority. Anybody who has a willing heart will no doubt connect with the characters. Such a good movie, there's no need to criticise it. Real issues are never really brought up in modern day movies, especially those aimed at a younger audience. It really made me think about it. The beginning part with no dialogue for such a long period was a work of art, i was gripped from the very beginning. I love the choice of music used it was really emotional. I managed to fall in love with the character of Wall-E and thought he was very cute! The film subtly has a lot more themes in it than realised at first and this is proof of it being a masterpiece. WALL-E is breathtaking, majestic, and heartbreaking; the closest thing to the last living being on earth. It is like seeing Charlie Chaplin inside of R2-D2. This is by far the best animated film I've seen to date. The folks at Pixar have done it again. Any movie that can start out the first 20 minutes or so without dialogue and keep it interesting and entertaining is worth watching. Also, it's quite a mastery to create emotions in characters who are mechanical devices devoid of any facial features. The attention to detail is excellent and the underlying story can be easily understood. This is a great film that can be enjoyed by adults and children alike. Good, clean fun with a great story to boot! Those who have given it a poor rating and have nothing but bad things to say about must be young men who admire nothing but violence, gore, sex and mindless stupidity coupled with no substance but special effects. They lack imagination and that's sad. Expand

This movie is amazing, but for being such a heartwarming movie it is also incredibly depressing. Wall-E is on a desolate Earth, and the future sucks. A lot. Its beautiful, but due to the desolation is very dark. He's a very cute little robot, and he takes good care of his little collection of objects. Then he finds a pet cockroach and a pet plant and takes care of them as well, and finally, he meets the first other "real" character - EVE. The people at Pixar did a wonderful job making the robots look great and convey emotion, and the movie is a pretty good romance set in a pretty depressing future. I have to give it a perfect score because it is the pinnacle of movie-making and the best film of 2008. Its wonderful, touching, funny, heartwarming, and depressing, all in a rated G movie. Expand

Boring, preachy, redundant. Here is the whole script: "Wall-e. Wall-e? Waaaal-eeee!" "eve" *mechanical noises. A **** scuttling around* "waaaall-e." (pleading) "caution. Road robots. Caution. Road robots." "WWWAAALLL-E!" "ROAD ROBOTS." "EEEEV-A!" "Wall-e. Wall-e." Wall-e and Eve try to learn each others names in 3 different scenes for 20 minutes each. Wall-e has a pet **** because the earth has obviously suffered a nuclear holocaust and the fat lazy humans have moved to space where their oversized hover-rounds really do hover. Welcome to Wall-e, a movie about the environment & 2 asexual pieces of machinery that are supposed to be in love. But it's hard to relate to an E.T.- rip-off-on-wheels and a poorly personified spaceship-looking robot that flies conveniently through space. Thats about it. I can't believe how many people raved about it. And "wall-e" was uttered no less than 300 times, just saying. Expand
