I've always been a fan of the Pixar films but this easily surpassed my expectations. The characters all had personality and really came to life. It was also, as usual for a pixar film, expertly rendered.

My friends can tell you I have an unhealthy habit of bringing up WALL-E in almost every conversation. Words cannot even begin to describe my love for this movie. It's a heart warming, life-appreciating, gem of a movie. Take a civilization that has never heard about what Earth is and what its people do and I bet you they would be amazed. WALL-E finds a way to show us a society just like that and at the same time give us a new perspective on the little things that we have. If you haven't seen WALL-E yet, go see it now. If you just can't seem to see past the idea of a robot love story, you might want to try and unscrew the blots tightly placed in your head. Expand

WALL-E is a standout for all the reasons mentioned, plus one further. I quibble with the idea that it is not suitable for younger kids. No, they aren't going to get all of the 2001-Silent Running references that all the critics are going wild over at the age of 4, but there is plenty that is accessible to them now, and the rest will keep them coming back to it in later years with a greater and greater appreciation for the movie they enjoyed as a child. This is a movie kids can potentially never outgrow. Expand

A lot of people seem to share my opinion about how incredible this film was. I personally feel that this may be the best film I've ever seen. I don't see this as bashing any one group of people based on their weight (...and I love that one person commented on how this movie would offend "fat people". Don't you think that some people might find that label offensive?). It does raise some important questions about the amount of time that we spend in front of our computer/screens these days, the lack of time that we spend playing outdoors and interacting with others face to face, and the nature of the "corporate beasts" that rule the retail market. More importantly, it's got great music, amazing graphics, and is truly endearing and hilarious. Watch this movie. And then go for a walk with family or friends. Expand

I thought the movie was great. Very well done and suitable for all ages. I have heard some people say that they were offended that the movie made fun of "fat" people. There was nothing that pointed fingers at that. Just the mere fact that thousands of years from now if we are not active and have machines do everything for us then we aren't getting exercise. So anyone who is reading the comments, ignore the bad reviews. the movie was great and I guarantee you and children of all ages will enjoy it. :) Expand

Took the whole family to see this movie last night and we absolutely loved it. The kids (10, 4, 2) sat mesmorized - even though there was little dialogue for the first 30 minutes. Let me just say there is a lot of prognostication in the reviews about whether children will love this movie as much as adults, and I can say without a doubt YES. This is a family movie. To all of you out there without any kids who offer opinions about kids not liking this - SHUT-UP. You don't know what the heck you're talking about. Expand

Despite not having dialogue for the first have of the movie, the characters in Wall-E are so rich that they feel the most life-like out of any character created by Pixar. A film not only for the younger audience but also for those young adults-adults looking for a great movie experience.

Wall-E is a prime example of what makes great movies great. No need to explain; just go see it. Tonight. Then go see it again. It has some flaws, like all films, but the pluses outweigh the minuses to such a degree that they can be ignored.

Top flight. I'm glad to see the Pixar folks aren't pandering to all the Homers who are moaning, "Doh! This isn't one of those movies I have to THINK about, is it?", or presume animation is for kids, or that they have to agree with a story-teller's world-view to appreciate the story. BTW, I'm fat and I'm big enough to take it - I'm frankly amazed the overly-PC types failed to notice Captain Tubby proved to be intellectually curious, resourceful, courageous, adaptible and persistant - I'd split a cruller with him any day of the week. Great movie. It's sad that we have to use children movies to get across the point that we are destroying the environment and that yes, many Americans are fat lazy slobs. Wall-E doesn't make those points to offend anybody. The points are made to show that we can change our ways for brighter future no matter what the circumstances are.

I really loved this film and once again PIXAR really delivered. I felt that the lack of dialogue made you pay far more attention to the characters and their situation. Also the simple gesture of Wall E wanting to hold Eve's hand was heartwarming and would have been missed had there been dialogue. So many people on this site are calling the film preachy and yacking on about the environment. They are all WRONG. The director distinctly said when interviewed that this film had nothing to do with the environment or politics, he was just making a film. Expand

The film is a visual masterpiece, but the real beauty of WALL-E comes from the fact that its story is a much-needed cautionary tale that, while uncomfortable, is something that should have been seen by people a long time ago. One can only be thankful that it was portrayed with such expert finesse and with a sense of humor that only Pixar can deliver. I would not be surprised if this film was nominated for Best Picture, in addition to best Animated. It simply smashes the boundaries of what a family film is supposed to be. Should the viewer not understand the significance of what they are seeing, it is a sad thing, because this film is revolutionary in the history of animated features. Expand

The people giving in extremely low scores are simply doing so because the message behind the film does not agree with their political ideology. I see a lot of ad hominem attacks against Disney. People who fault this movie for its lack of dialogue are simply unwilling to pay attention to a movie; while great movies utilize dialogue well, the best movies use dialogue well and leave it out even better. And Wall-E did that. The story, though not very complicated, was intriguing, and had an unspoken but important message. Anyone that thinks this movie was about mocking obesity is simply an idiot for not reading between the lines--it's about overreliance on others, and ignorance to problems of overconsumerism. A fantastic film, and if you can't recognize that, you're less intelligent than any of the robots in this film possibly could be. Go watch "Wanted" and be mindlessly entertained. Expand

The finest film of 2008. Admittedly, 2008 has been dreadful so far, but that doesn't take away an inch from this film's power, passion, and truest heart. Not only is this a great animated film, it is a classic for all time. I've read the complaints that this film is lacking action, humor, or color, but that is exactly why it is brilliant. PIXAR hasn't stepped out of the box, it has leapt from it to create a beautiful love story, with a message that may ring more true as time passes about our culture and our lack of responsibility toward our home. Not only was this a great film, it is the best PIXAR film, and I hope it gets a well-deserved nod from the Academy for Best Picture 2008. Expand

I went to see WALL-E with my parents and younger sisters, fully expecting to have to sit through another occasionally funny, but overall forgettable flick (as are the feeling of every parent and sibling who sat through Shrek 3). I left, however, with the sense that I had just seen something absolutely gorgeous. WALL-E is a wonderful film, with some moments that are truly hilarious and some that will live on in my heart for quite some time. It's rare to see so much done with so little--in fact, the movie's simplicity (of dialogue and of characters) contributes to its beauty. Appealing to all ages--as either cute romance between two robots or a message to humanity--WALL-E will live on, not only as an epic film but as a wonderful childhood family of my own. Expand

I find the negative reviews on this site laughable. People are obsessed with the story, or what they call the irritating voices, or the fact that there isn't an enormous plot. All I can say is, anyone who was bored by this film or thought it was some leftist rant on pollution entirely missed the point. This film is all about feeling and emotion. It flows at parts like an opera, at others like one of the old Roadrunner/Coyote Chuck Jones shorts. In fairness, those who obsess over the film's social commentary are similarly short-sighted. Sociopolitical overtones aside, everything, from top to bottom, works in this film. Anyone who thinks "Finding Nemo" was great but can't stomach this movie should just go back and watch the second "Matrix" film; movies of actual substance just aren't for you. Expand

Breathtaking beauty and touching throughout the film, I found that this movie seemed to hide a kind of political message that kids might not appreciate as well as adults...I felt that it held a kind of depth that is rarely seen in children's movies, while still managing to be heart-warming to everyone. Beautifully shot. Top notch animation and imagination went into this film. You'd think robot voice-overs would get annoying, but they are actually done wonderfully in a cute sort of way. I didn't think this movie was the greatest animation ever made, but I score it highly for its uniqueness, the development of the relationship between two unconventional stars [Wall-E & Eva], and the anticipation of which way the storyline was headed [built up a little suspense/curiosity]. I was kind of surprised that it felt like more of an adult oriented animation in that the beginning of the film was shot with little-to-no dialogue [hold a young kids attention span?], but rather watching Wall-E go about doing his thing and introducing himself to the audience. Kind of gutsy, but I suppose the kids love it nonetheless. Expand

For the first time in me life, a movie has truly made me smile from beginning to end. Wall-E is an original and gripping movie that will leave you speechless. The visuals are unmatched, with landscapes that will drop your jaw, at the very least. The expressiveness of the two main characters is unmatched, as Pixar is able to craft extremely complex characters, without using any major dialogue. I had to write this after reading Conrad B.'s review. He is either suffering from weight issues or more likely, just doesn't get the fact that this is a MOVIE! If over weight people are offended then tough! Is it ok to make a film such as the Godfather trilogy without offending Italian Americans? Cinema is at it's best, an art form. So deal with it. Easily the best movie I've seen since Lost in Translation. But better. Some have complained that the silent picture start is better than the rest of the film, but consider how the two leads desires and motives affect the story while firmly being rooted in thei own motives. Brilliant. Not since Chaplin has a film been so pitch perfect in making a statement and touching hearts. This is the kind of film (art piece) that changes the world in it's wake. Expand

Best movie of 2008 will go to Wall-E or The Dark Knight. This was an awesome movie because of the cuteness of each and every character. Wall-E and Eve are so cutely portrayed that you wish you can have them. The animation is amazing and the story is heartwarming. Users rating Wall-E are emphasizing the fact that the humans in the movie are fat. I conclude that they're f4ggots. I would think that it is obvious that during 700 years of generations and generations, if all people do is eat and sit, of course everyone would become obese. The message in Wall-E is clear and addresses modern day problems. We need to put an end to global warming and obesity needs to be solved. We need to remember that the Earth is our home and that at this rate, humans cannot coexist with Mother Nature. Wall-E is truly a splendid film. If you do not think the movie is good, it's fine. If you spend some time thinking after the movie ends, several of the movie's main ideas self-contradict. But kids will love it and I 100% enjoyed the audio/visual brilliance. This is a gorgeous movie, transfixing from beginning to end. The animation at the beginning is awe-inspiring and the story is cute, but serious enough to get the point through. I understand some kids not finding it to be their cup of tea, not privy to many of the clever references and jokes, but I think to thoroughly dislike this film one would have to be heartless, blind, and entirely miss the point. I think that those complaining about the lack of dialogue should consider expanding their tastes (and maybe think about WHY there is little dialogue, other than the fact they are robots), and those who say it is preachy are probably reacting to some deep guilt they harbour with regards to their own day to day practices. After reading these reviews I think it's funny how a lot of adults said they thought it would be too much for kids to understand. That just goes to prove a lot of adults think kids are just plain stupid. I sat next to a 5-year-old and he was completely mesmerized throughout the whole movie. He may not have been outright laughing but he followed the story and at the end he turned to his mother and said, so we turn out alright? That to me signaled he understood the plot and was left with a feeling of hope. While kids may not "get" every joke, I think the movie has a message that any kid can follow and be entertained by and those adults who think kids don't understand are underestimating them. I loved the movie! Expand

The best animation i have even seen. The desolate scenes of a deserted earth overwhelmed with rubbish are a poignant rebuke against humans' greed and excessive consumer culture. The romantic plot involving a gawky male robot and sleek female automaton is sweet without an once of melodrama. The green message is powerful without being didactic. Best movie of the year so far. Pixar obviously is letting their hair down and having fun with the medium they basically created. As far as social commentary, it's a flippin' science fiction cartoon! Sure, Man lost his way. Sure, the Earth was ruined. In the end though, both parties benefited in a positive way. How dare anyone say that Pixar decided to make fun of fat people! Let's face it, anyone offended may have a bit of a problem themselves with the hand to mouth exercise that we call overindulgence. Funny how people recognize smoking and excessive drinking as true problems facing society, but forget that over eating is one as well. Wall-E, however, is not saying that! The movie is simply pointing out that huge corporations will do anything to not put the blame on themselves when it's their mistakes that have caused such harm. That's what made the people on the ship fat! They had simply lost the concept of what being human meant, and were slowly turning into a kind of "machine" themselves due to Buy'N'Large's huge goof! Eve was cute too! Expand

Fantastic movie. I rarely come to tears, but this one sent me over the edge several times. For those offended by the movie's message concerning fat people: Get over yourself. You would have to be severely thick to find this movie offensive. It in no way set out to ridicule fat people, it was ridiculing lazy people. People can be overweight and still be healthy, active, and happy with themselves. This movie does not ridicule these people. Rather it lampoons LAZY people who become fat due to inactivity and an obsession with quick and easy food, media, and life in general. It also sends an important message concerning how the increasingly lethargic attitudes of our society will ultimately be our downfall in protecting our planet. This movie deserves not only the best animated film award, but the best picture award. Expand

The fantastic animation almost takes a backseat to the touching, endearing boy meets girl story - or in this case, junky boy robot meets sleek girl robot. This movie is all about heart. The depth of emotion and reactions displayed by the characters in the film is it's true success. While I could take or leave the moral of the story, the one involving the consequences of rampant consumerism, Wall*E and Eve's burgeoning relationship will always stand out as one of the great screen romances of all time. oh, and of course the animation is stellar. This is Pixar, after all. When they wed it to a great story & plot (not always the case, good examples being "A Bug's Life" and the overrated "Finding Nemo"), it's true magic. Highly recommended. Don't wait for the DVD, it's a movie to go see at the theatre on a really big screen. Expand

Conrad, if this movie offended you perhaps you and your family shouldn't watch movies any longer, as they are obviously becoming too risque for your type. If this movie offends you it won't be the last time you are offended in front of the silver screen, I assure you. Now to the movie. I watched it as a date movie with my girlfriend and loved it. There are parts where the plot seems to drag on because of the lack of dialog; however it manages to keep you interested even when you think the plot should have moved on already. It's a very charming movie. Expand

It was totally original, extremely well told and spectacularly well produced. My only quibble is the doomsday vision message that we've destroyed the planet.

This movie ruled. Conrad B, you are obviously a huge fattass. There was so much going on in this movie: allegory of hedonism, satire of how people live their lives on the same track every day, of how people let advertising dictate their interests, reckless disregard for the environment... it goes on and on. I'm too jaded for kids movies, but I loved this.

Amazing movie. If you were bored, learn to appreciate a lack of explosions. If you were offended, learn to deal with your own imperfections (you're fat? OH NO!). Your kids didn't understand? Take them to something simpler. This movie was not designed to pander to the audience; it is a beautiful work of art, containing messages that are not limited to warnings about the current state of the world, and playing to an audience that is not limited to the young. The expressions of loneliness, love, and hope are the most touching that I have ever experienced in a movie, and I pity those who cannot see the same. Expand

Conrad B: "Size Positive"?? Get a grip. That kind of politically correct garbage is what will eventually kill creativity and turn us all into beurocratic slaves. Really, if you can't see the fun in the greatest animated movie of all time, you should just stop going and leave them to the rest of us - the people with a sense of humour.

I don't think the fact that the people were fat was being commented on per se. I think that the people had become so disassociated with one another and that they were so unwilling to do anything was a focus of the film. The people weren't fat from over eating. They were deformed (bone loss and unable to walk) from being lazy. And fatness didn't lead to the planet's distruction in the movie, laziness did. Oh, and I don't think the joke was that they were fat. I don't think it was even meant to be traditionally funny that they were fat. I think it was suppossed to be funny in a Dr. Strangelove fashion. Excellent. the first third of the film where there is little to no dialogue is just brilliant and the vision of mankind's future is a humorous dose of dark comedy. a big accomplishment here is the connection you feel with the cold, mechanized robots, who only communicate using 2 or 3 different words. you gotta see it.

It's been a long time since I've been so moved by a film. Not to mention an animated film, about robots. The message is powerful, the characters utterly endearing, and the love story heartwarming. Woot, huzzah and three cheers for Pixar!

this is a whole next step for pixar, they moves into another realm of story telling with this gem. the scenes with eve and walle and simply phenomenal. The sound effects/ voice actors did really well with these two. I swear I positively swoon every time I hear EVE! I love how they incorperated live action. One thing I'd like to see however, is Pixar push the look and animation of human characters further, something more than the rubber-cutsie-caricatures that they've been doing since monsters inc. Other than that, absolutely perfect, this touched me and was far more enjoyable than Batman TDK. Pixar's proven themselves once again to be the industry leader in cg movies, setting new standards with every release! Expand

Beautiful, engaging, heartwarming. This is honestly the best animated film I have ever seen. Frankly, anyone who doesn't enjoy this movie must be utterly dead inside, or at least between their ears. Every twist and every turn will hold you spellbound. I don't want to give the plot away at all, because this movie is honestly best experienced unspoiled. What I WILL say is that both halves of this masterpiece will keep you hooked in their own special ways. 10/10. Nothing less. Expand

I hope people saying 'Wall-E is hypocritical because it's saying big corporations are bad but there are lots of Wall-E toys.' know that Pixar makes the movie and has nothing to do with the marketing. Only disney does. Anyway, this is easily tied for the best movie of the year in my book. It's message is obvious, but it's told in a moving, never before done way. The 2 main characters have an extraordinarily engrossing romance, and their total dialouge has about 4 different words total. The first half of the film is nearly dialouge-less. It uses its wonderous visuals to share its story. But whent the dialouge does come in, the story doesn't get any less intruiging and the visuals are even more involving. It's a film that has aspects most summer blockbusters have, but this doesn't make it any less fascinating or loveable. Expand

The first hour of Wall-E is a crazily inventive, deliriously engaging and almost wordless silent comedy of the sort that Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton used to make.

Put simply, WALL-E is about as charming as movies get.
  3. Mixing Chaplinesque delicacy with the architectural grandeur of a Stanley Kubrick film, director Andrew Stanton recycles film history and makes something fresh and accessible from it without pandering to a young audience.
