Director Zack Snyder's cerebral, scintillating follow-up to "300" seems, to even a weary filmgoer's eye, as fresh and magnificent in sound and vision as "2001" must have seemed in 1968, yet in its eagerness to argue with itself, it resembles "A Clockwork Orange."

A terrific comic-book movie, the most completely satisfying and unsettling one I've ever seen.
  3. Watchmen is a fitting tribute to Alan Moore's fascinating graphic novel, even if he refused to let his name be used in the credits.
  4. Snyder stands revealed here as more of a beginner than a visionary in his uncertain approach to making an on-screen world come alive.

In the canon of comic-book movies, it's not as campy bad as the "Batman" starring George Clooney, but nowhere near the caliber of the Spider-Man movies or "The Dark Knight." It may have more style, but it's only a jot more entertaining than "Catwoman."

Watchmen is indeed gorgeous, with Gibbons' original work reproduced and – in some cases – improved upon by detailed F/X, but even at a healthy two hours and 41 minutes the story feels truncated. Even abrupt.
  7. Elegance isn't Zack Snyder's bag; a certain sort of impact is. Watchmen establishes him as Hollywood's reigning master of psychic suffocation.

I was Entirely impressed. The casting was phenomenal, I thought each character looked/acted/embodied their inked counterparts to a T. Obviously the movie was not able to delve completely into the social commentary and more subtle undertones that the book did, but I felt that what was omitted was probably for the better, due to the fact that it would most likely make for boring movie watching (as it was some of the more difficult reading to get through as well) I was intrigued the whole way through the movie and each characters story was so well portrayed that for me, the 2.5 hrs flew by...The movie did NOT feel as long as it was. My sister in law (who has not read the book) also liked it tremendously, and she can be a very harsh critic. Expand

Great movie for fans of the graphic novel, but I'd imagine newcomers would have a harder time getting into it. However, if you guys want to see an actual 10 out of 10, stunning visual representation of the Watchmen comic... Get the Watchmen 6 hour Animated Comic. It's a totally new medium of art that going overlooked, and one of the greatest films you could watch right now! Why? Because it's a frame for frame (not recreation with "decent" actors and an action/horror director) COMIC with GREAT VOICE ACTING and subtle not over the top animation of the actual comic, WATCHMEN. Go see it, after you leave this "alright" film, please. And if you like it, tell more people! Expand
