  • Summary: Based on the award-winning best seller by Jess Mowry, Way Past Cool is a coming-of-age story told in reverse -- the moving tale of a group of young black kids and their fight to reclaim their childhood. (Redeemable Features)

  1. It’s a magical little movie about a most unmagical subject.

Unfortunately, its inescapable comparison is to David Gordon Green's "George Washington," made the same year as Mr. Davidson's film but with a far greater sense of style and a more profound grasp of the fragility of young lives. Way Past Cool can't stand up to that kind of competition.
  3. 60
Davidson's young cast is remarkable, engaging and guilelessly funny without being so cute that their calculated actions ring false.
