  1. All the more disappointing, then, when what has been a celebration of last-ditch passion slides abruptly into a cautionary tale. Until that point the movie's refreshingly unbiased tone allows us to make our own moral judgments, teasing us with the possibility that, occasionally, the scarlet woman can escape unbranded. I, for one, was rooting for her.

Cloud 9 is most moving when it steps quietly into the gap between physical decline and the persistence, at full blast, of unfulfilled longing and desire.

These performances are so quietly effective that we watch, absorbed. I'm not sure, however, that where this film comes from quite earns the place it goes to.
  4. Cloud 9 may not be my idea of a great movie, but it doesn't pretend that old folks are, by definition, sexless. In the movie business, this qualifies as a revolution.

Disappointing third act to this brave drama about love and sex in our later years.
  6. Cloud 9's plot is thin, the conflict lazy, and the resolution sudden and unsurprising. That's a shame, because stronger development in the story department might have made this film a minor sensation.

Besides the frank, blithe sex scenes, a melodramatic ending aims to banish any last hope of gem├╝tlichkeit, but the film comes to feel curiously incomplete, like one long fretful afternoon.

For me it is obvious that it is not about love but about lust. The fact that they are middle aged doesn't change it. She hurt her husband really and when he probably took his own life after she left, she is crying crocodile tears. After all a marriage means that you stay together in good and bad times. Instead of trying to improve her marriage she took the easy way. For me the movie sucks. Expand
