    Funny, exuberant and shamelessly seductive, Yossi is an unabashedly populist entertainment with a spirit conciliatory enough to melt the heart of any naysayer.

Yossi is a gentle and moving film which takes up the story of its title character, a bereft gay man now overworking as a cardioligist in Tel Aviv, ten years after the initial film 'Yossi and Jaeger' concluded. Ohad Knoller gives a wonderfully understated performance as the somewhat disillusioned title character unwilling or unable to commit to another relationship due to the great loss experienced in the earlier film. The screenplay offers up some really great scenes which are very affecting and painfully honest to observe as, for example, when he visits the parents of his 'lost' lover and unwittingly tells them about their son's true sexuality. Also, later in the film, his reluctance to become involved with a young gay soldier is allowed to unfold quite beautifully evoking genuine emotion which leads to an optimistic ending, that whilst well earned, is highly unlikely. A big plus for the film is the songs and music by Keren Ann which perfectly fit the mood of the story.… Expand

    Interesting, touching and well acted film. I just wish more time was spent on Yossi's involvement with the charming 27 year old gay soldier. There was too much development of Yossi's grief, lonlilness and depression for the ten years after Jaeger's death.… Expand
