  1. A novel teenage comedy with an astute understanding of adolescent sexual confusion and the nebulous nature of desire, Zerophilia suggests an elastic view of gender that's alternately gleeful and terrifying.
  2. Oddest-of-the-year romantic comedy.

Anyone who understands the meaning of the title or catches all the frog references scattered through writer-director Martin Curland's feature debut will have a head start understanding this confused and confusing comedy.

Plays like a throwback to such transformative adolescent anxiety romps as "Teen Wolf" and "Just One of the Guys," this time aiming at a slightly less innocent crowd.

All the nudity in Zerophilia is either prosthetic or body-doubled. Which means the sex scenes--and the feeling and meaning behind them--are just as phony.

The gender-bending comedy of Billy Wilder and Blake Edwards gets a teenpic makeover in this 2005 debut feature by Martin Curland.

A case of provocative issues at the mercy of unskilled execution, Zerophilia is a psychological-horror comedy that pokes its toe into dangerous sexual waters but then scurries away.
  8. A half-silly, half-earnest indie with the soul of a John Hughes-era sex comedy.

There's plenty of material here for a dark comedy, but director Martin Curland isn't up to the job. His film - like Luke - plods along, unsure of exactly what it's supposed to be.

This was the best movie I have seen in years. Makes you think, and has great plot twists throught the duration of the film.

As the movie plods along, you get the feeling that the movie is as confused as the characters understandably are, but then suddenly all the commotion reveals itself to be the setup for the perfect conclusion. You feel and understand the conflict, and even as confused as everything is, it all ends up just the way it ought to. The acting is the best there is for teenage actors. The movie isn't "funny" so much as amusing and lighthearted. It's a drama, and a good one. Full Review »

Not only a very funny movie this picture faces sexual identity and gender issues to the extreme. Somewhat predictiable in parts I still give this movie the highest rating just on challenging the issues I mentioned earlier in such a positive fictional way.. The cast is also very easy on the eyes. Definately see this one. Full Review »
