    A bit sit-commish, but well-portrayed characters, and attractive people.

    Interesting Dutch film, nice performances, amusing story. There are some slow stretches scattered about, but overall it moves along well. A bit overlong. Nominated for an Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film.

    The title translates, roughly, as ''This & That,'' a confectionary shrug that pretty well sums up the blasé inconsequentiality of it all.

    To attempt a culinary metaphor, Ms. van der Oest manages a yolky, runny sitcom omelet rather than the airy soufflé of farce.
