The sound of New York is occasionally absent on 1992--in moments, her Migos-like repetitive hooks and regionless hashtag punchlines move it somewhere a bit less rooted--but Frasqueri’s loved for the city never wanes.
Nokia wears many hats throughout the album--but each personality feels authentic. There's never a sense that she's masquerading. Despite Nokia's artistry, though, Deluxe has a few marked flaws. Her cadence and punchlines are amateurish at times, and there's something flat about the production and overall mix. ... Overall though, Deluxe is a solid effort that proves this Harlemite has the range. Fans will surely delight.

Well, to my surprise she kinda did. It is still a bit amateurish, the text needs some work but Destiny has dope, sometimes innovative beats and unexpected change in genre that most of the time fit neatly in the coherence of her mixtape.
Still, the rap and catchphrases need more impact, more work and it feels like she is in search of a musical identity that doesn't come to realization.
So, great mixtape and very good surprise; surely Princess Nokia will step up her game and may be one the next leaders of new york rap.…Expand

I am trying so hard to be subjective, because have had many of the same experiences. Personally I love this album from front to back, though I was skeptical about this album at first. My first exposure to Princess Nokia was the song Brujas which Ioved from the get go. My favorites now span a little bit futher. I have to say Bart Simpson, Saggy Denim, ABCs of New York, Brujas and Greenline are my standouts from this album. The others are good just not my preference when speaking about Hip-Hop. Other than the few flops I love this album, I think that Princess Nokia is on to something.…Expand

I had the huge pleasure of knowing Princess Nokia via the listening of her 1992 deluxe album. I consider myself as a big consumer of american hip-hop and rap but this artist just didn't left me indifferent. I can count on and on the female artists that are just copies of Minaj's style in the rap game. It seems so difficult for them to get a real personality and find their own places in music. It's actually not the case of Princess Nokia, just as she sings and proclaims it : "I'm different i'm different i'm different I'm different". She really has an unique flow that matches with a rythmic and particular rap style. We can easily understand what she sings, her songs have a varied style and she has things to say. Instrumentals varies between 'ok' and 'amazing' as her voice beautifully embellishes it.
So that's it for me. I could feel her tenderness, arrogance, violence, nostalgia and self-confidence through the listening of 1992 deluxe. It was a true delight to explore it as it appeared to me like something fresh, never heard before and sometimes clearly dancing. I can't wait to hear new material coming from her and I will wait for it with 1992 deluxe.…Expand
