    This is one of the best albums of all time. Sometimes, For You, and Love Poems.. are a few of my favorites. I have been listening to this album for years. Each time thatI hear it, I fall in love with it all over again. I cannot wait until his next project is released.

    The only thing bad about this album is that it didn't chart well--and that will probably tempt Bilal to stray from the path... Although he pays homage to Sly, Curtis Mayfield and Stevie Wonder, it's Prince that he favors. MUsically it is like the classic album 1999, but instead of trying to shock (like Prince) he is trying to seduce. If you attempt to just have this album playing in the background, a song like "Sometimes" will reach out and grab you by the ears and demand that you pay attention to Bilal's talent. Why is everybody sleeping on this???… Expand

    The overreaching inevitably hurts the disc's consistency in spots, but it's easy to admire Bilal's ambition, and when it works, it works well. He can't quite do it all, but he does what he can as well as anyone out there, making 1st Born Second sound like the first highlight in a compelling career.
