  • Summary: Originally conceived for Nike as a workout mix and released on iTunes, the physical release includes three songs previously available only in the UK.
Score distribution:
  1. Positive: 13 out of 14
  2. Negative: 0 out of 14
  1. 45:33 deftly segues from the smooth funk favored by Levan to synth-pop and Talking Heads-style polyrhythms before opening into serious space-party territory.
  2. I can attest that the music really does move forward similarly to my own metabolism, gradually building, holding a modest climax in the middle, and ending on a long, fluffy comedown. [Review of UK release]
  3. Despite its branding as work-out music, 45:33 feels more like an amazing club DJ set than something to quicken one's pace on the treadmill. [Review of UK release]
  4. 45:33 is as much gallery-crawl as beach-run; purpose-built in gliding tempos and warm-down synth shimmers for iPod-strapped runners, yet appropriate for a cruise through the Whitney, too. [Review of UK release]

Just a heads up for Tim T and anyone who thinks that this album copied Someone Great, if you actually checked the release dates you would see that it was actually released before Sound of Silver so it didn't really just recycle it. Plus the rest of the album is good and provides a solid beat for when you are running. Expand

Definitely a decent record if you have nothing better to do on a Sunday afternoon. But, I think critics are wanking off too much to James Murphy. This is clearly much less cohesive and interesting than his full-lengths. It's just not that good. BORING. Expand

Before I get to my review, let me just say that this is ridiculous. Apparently, in the eyes of critics, James Murphy can do absolutely no wrong as an artist. Number 5 of the year? Beating out his own latest LP? Oh please. These critics are on reefer or something. Now to the review; It's too damn long. I can't possibly enjoy a huge 46 minute song. It's as long as a damn LP! And I specifically can't stand one that reverts to recycled beats! About 7 minutes in it just goes into "Someone Great" for about 2 minutes (not to say that isn't a great song, I was just expecting to get a lot of new material here). Look, as someone who listens to music while doing almost everything, I can honestly say I don;t know what people are talking about here. It's ok. It's just a song. That's basically it. It sort of works your brain and engages you and your metabolism, but I would almost always rather throw on a full album (much rather a full LCD Soundsystem) while doing housework or running than listen to this song.
