A huge step forward from the gloriously relaxed ambience of KY and Lost Horizons. There's an appreciably harder edge to many of the tracks, in fact that which works least well is most reminiscent of their previous outings.

Absolutely top notch album! Takes a bit of listening to at first, and you definintely can't say that they have stagnated in their style, but boy does it grow on you. I am reliably informed that it all makes sense when you see the DVD-I wait with bated breath for that to arrive andmake my experience complete.

A real grower and far more than the sum of its parts. Saw them live "doing" this album and the diversity is something else - live scratching, bongos, cello, accordians, guitars, etc. Outstanding

Loved the last one, but this one just leaves me cold. Not nearly playful enough....some of it sounds like Information Society or something.

'my first sequencer/sampler' springs to mind, a big dissapointment. soundbites sounded interesting but when i bought the album it just felt uninspiring. poor.

After the stimulating originality of lost horizons, 64-95 has already become an album that I will only listen too once in a while, and spend most of it's life on the shelf. Great background music to chill out to at the end of a party. Where has the strangeness and uniqueness gone that they achieved in lost horizons?

I've never had an album grow on me like this did - listen again, and again if necessary. It's stunningly brilliant.

starts slowly then grows into a monster. very much a sample/sequencer moment, but in no way does that affect the overall musical interest. some real gems too(don't stop now/shouty track)

Few electronic albums are able to stretch a smile across my face as wide as Lemon Jelly's incomparable pastiche exercise, '64-95.' Taste oughtn't be argued, but this is certainly one of my favorites.

Wow. This album is insnae.... a complete journey of sight (!!) and sound featuring textures of the past and present intricately woven together. The samples are ones that you've probably never heard before creating a newness and vitatlity to the work. But even better is the DVD. Skip the CD, and go startight fro the DVD. Anyone who wanted dance music to grow up will love this. It's so intelligent, so powerful that you'll hear something new each time you listen to it. It surprised me the first time I heard it as it covers so many different styles, but the fact that they do that so seamlessly and in such an integrated and exciting way builds this album like few others. A future classic!

Okay. So, I've had this cd a month now. At first I would've thrown a 6 or 7 rating at this, but it grows baby. Great headphone material and something new is discovered at every listen. If you've listened to this album, don't disregard it. Put it back on and let it guide it's way back into your brain.

Early Lemon Jelly is heard to beat. They put out some of the most innovative and unique electronica of the last 20 years. Most of my favourite LJ material resides on their Eps. I thought Lost Horizons was decent but felt the material struggled to keep me engaged the whole way through. I feel similarly about this record but to a lesser extent - some great moments and probably would have been another classic EP if shorter but as a long player the impact of the great moments are somewhat diluted by the lesser tracks and sometimes by the length of the tracks themselves - it sometimes gets to a point where you feel the material is padding for the album. Its great music to have in the background or to work to and if you like the band then this is well worth checking out. Expand

As many other reviews have said, this album sis a grower! After one complete listen through I was really disappointed. After KY & Lost Horizons I considered 64-95 to be quite a lazy album. A band with immense vision and talent who had only used about half it...

However after a few more listens I'd say this album is actually very good. In some ways it is more subtle than the previous 2,

However after a few more listens I'd say this album is actually very good. In some ways it is more subtle than the previous 2, it is not as quirky, jolly or humorous but it is the tiny little embellishments that build the album into a whole. One of those albums that you can hear something different everytime you play it.

  1. It is a fantastic album, no less so than the one before it.
  2. Being sampled by Lemon Jelly on this astonishing new album is nothing less than an honor.

It takes their happily slanted electronic sound and infuses it with a sinister mood and heavy guitar sounds. [#8, p.106]
