MichaelApr 1, 200810Their best work in 16 years.
-
-
DanO.Apr 3, 200810This is their best album since Adventures, hands down.
-
-
WesleyM.Apr 4, 20089Their best work in years. Remarkably consistent, "Man-Sized Wreath" and "Horse to Water" are highlights.
-
-
MichaelM.Apr 1, 20088Perfect it may not be, but I've been an R.E.M. fanatic since 1987 and this shot of adrenaline is just what the doctor ordered.
-
-
PeterS.Apr 10, 20088Fine album. Nothing to completely blow you away here, but more energetic than they've sounded in years.
-
-
JamesApr 2, 20089In 'Supernatural Superserious' you have the type of track that has been in short supply over the last few albums. Not a 100% success as the title track doesn't quite do it for me but I cannot wait for the Twickenham concert in August. Welcome back chaps - it's been a long time.
-
-
GregK.Apr 3, 20088Definitely back on track. Fun album. By the way...am I the only one who thought "REveal" was really good?

TrevorW.Apr 4, 20089I am a big REM fan, and this album makes me incredibly happy after Reveal and Around the Sun were so frustrating.

-
JDWilliamsApr 5, 200810Best since Automatic For The People. Mr. Roberts is so catchy.
-
-
MaggieS.Apr 7, 200810The best album of their career.

-
JonG.Apr 8, 20085Sounds like 1988... Very boring for the 21 century.

TSJun 2, 20088This is no question a very good album and I'm enjoying it more with every listen. So much better than their last three discs it's shocking. Also less indulgent than many of their classic Bill Berry albums.

BM.Oct 24, 20087R.E.M. rock out harder than they have since the departure of Bill Berry. That's good. The songwriting sometimes takes a backseat to the band's rediscovered rock chops. That's not so good. Overall the album is good, but you can feel the band trying too hard to be relevant again.

MichaelH.Oct 2, 200810Greatest Band in the world!!!!!

BobaF.Mar 31, 20089A nice return to the form that made them the best band of the last 25 years (your favorite band included).

[Anonymous]Apr 1, 200810Music that resonates with their past albums without repeating the sound. This sounds like a band that made LRP and Document matured over 20 yrs. to deliver Accelerate.
-
-
BertE.Apr 2, 20089Accelerate is tight and focused album that is very much of its time. Very much the result of R.E.M. recording together in one room rather than in pieces.

MatthewM.Apr 2, 200810Ferocious, concise and, in an effort to limit myself to three lofty proclamations, brilliant. It's not R.E.M. trying to recapture a past sound so much as R.E.M. reinstating tight song structure and sonic movement into its writing process. Buy this album.

PaulL.Apr 3, 20088The divisive comments are a testament -- this band is still vital, and still has something to say. Great energy on this record.

-
MichaelC.Apr 3, 200810Absolutely LOVE this album, and this is coming from a fan that has all (ALL) their albums. Love the balance between the ole school and the new. Perfect!!!! Hollow Man is a highlight for me. Thank you REM can't wait to see what the next album will be like.
-
-
TimP.Apr 3, 200810This is R.E.M. in 2008, and it sounds pretty amazing. Accelerate could end up as one of their five best albums. Give it a listen.
-
-
TomApr 4, 20089Very good album. Really have not paid attention to them since Monster.
-
-
JohnN.Apr 4, 200810Excellent album. Their best in over a decade!
-
-
JohnB.Apr 5, 20085Episode #14: In which Michael Stipe enlists the Gin Blossoms to help him announce his discovery that George W. Bush, and George W. Bush, alone is responsible for all the world's ills.

-
MattM.Apr 8, 20088Very accesible, holds well on its own as a record, unlike Around the Sun and Reveal which had very few memorable tracks. The only problem is the album is too nostalgic, attention deficit, and too short.
-
-
JoeM.Apr 8, 20088My favourite REM since New Adventures In Hi-Fi. Amazing how fresh a band can sound when they ditch all the crappy funk trappings they've been peddling since Bill Berry left and get back to catchy harmonised choruses on a bed of noisy, melodic guitar. They sound genuinely energised.
-
-
DejanSt.Apr 8, 20086A return to form? No way. It's nice one, but I've heard it all before.
-
-
HenryW.May 2, 20089Best post-Berry album by REM.

SandraS.Mar 31, 200810This album is simply amazing. Finally the guitars are back (thank you Peter) in a big way, Micheal's lyrics are beautiful, and Mill's back vocals simply enhance the greatness of each songs. It's a great rock album from a legendary band. And despite what some critics say, it is worth listening to....over and over again.
-
-
WillH.Apr 1, 200810Excellent CD - a renewed sense of purpose is evident. While it is REM's most "rock" album since Monster, it easily eclipses that boring dud (contrary to Taylor's - is that a guy or girl's name? - inaccurate review).

PatrickApr 11, 20082Utter crap. Stipe's prepubescent squealing takes irritating to the Nth level. R.E.M. should either go back to putting Stipe's vocals in the background (where they belong) or just disband.
-
-
RLApr 1, 20089I don't get the "return to form bit" because this sounds different than anything they've done before (besides "Bad Day"). The songs rock but I'm not sure about Jacknife's fuzzy production. Still, it's a creative gem with no filler.
-
-
RobL.Apr 1, 20088This is not a return to form, but rather a review of those things that made R.E.M. great in the first place. But a review of R.E.M. is still better than a first pass of many other artists.

-
MarkB.Apr 18, 20088By far one of the strongest cd's of 2007. The group shows that they haven't forgot what got them into the game. I would definitely put this in the top 10 cd's of 2007 for overall sound, catchiness and music value. Great pickup by Fueled By Ramen.
-
-
BryanW.Apr 19, 20089Solid.....more rockin than the last few...they continue to be strong!!
-
-
PeterApr 19, 20088Most rocking REM album since Document, best REM album since Automatic For The People (my personal favorite). I think they recognized that a time of retrenchment will allow them to move forward, whereas constantly striving for growth just stretches you too thin. Let's hear it for Jacknife Lee, who squeezed the best possible comeback albums from U2 and REM. Maybe Pearl Jam should talk to him.
-
-
NoreallyApr 2, 20089Not really sure whether to give this album an 8 or a 9. On first listen I was barely gonna give it a 7 to be honest, but I've hardly been able to stop listening since. So they must have done something right. Not Stipe's best album to put it mildly, loving his singing in Hollow Man and Sing for the Submarine though.
-
-
CarlosD.Apr 2, 20089It's great.
-
-
HentricksApr 2, 20089With the brilliant history that the band has had (a couple of later day missteps does not destroy what the band was in their prime), it is astounding that a group this far into their careers has made such a flat out vital record. The overall review from metacritic is great, but it actually deserves a better rating than the one it got.

PaulC.Apr 3, 20084I wanted to like it, but frankly it's pretty boring. Better than what they've churned out recently, but certainly not as good as their earlier work. Another sub-par record from a band that's moment in the sun passed over a decade ago.
-
-
JyotirmayaD.Apr 8, 20087It's a great listen.... too short at 35 minutes so I downloaded the two extra tunes and made it an almost 40 minute disc. I love the urgency; I beg for one standout track...maybe it's already there and my head hasn't found it yet; the solid sound of R.E.M. that just might be themelves surprising itself with considering what it's last 2 or 3 albums sound like.
-
-
JaceN.Apr 8, 20089O-U-T-S-T-A-N-D-I-N-G!!! Theres a simple formula I use to score/rate albums...its the songs on the album I love against the songs I hate. Its not since R.E.M.'s 1996 offering "New Adventures in HI-Fi" with its so far undefeated 12 to 2 that ive rated one of their albums so high at 9 to 2.. Imagine if the tracklist were longer.
-
-
RiccardoMay 10, 20089Their best effort since New Adventures in Hi-fi (my all-time favorite). We've been waiting for something like that for 12 years. Welcome back R.E.M.!
-
-
RyanRMay 5, 200810Best since "Out of Time", and right up there in the top 3 w/ "Out of Time" and "Document". "Mr.Richards", "Hollow Man", and "Supernatural Superserious" are all great.

MiguelA.Mar 31, 200810Accelerate is a fun, raw, energetic, melodic, dark and fast rock album. All good, no filler. Pure magic. R.E.M. has done it again!
-
-
TaylorH.Mar 31, 20085Do not be deceived by the "critics." This album comes nowhere near the previous 4. It's their weakest since Monster and maybe even besides Monster, both lyrically and musically. The reviewers are obviously not real listeners of REM's music. Maybe half the songs are memorable at best.
-
-
CarolineC.Mar 31, 200810R.E.M. is back!!!! Living well is the best revenge is the best rock song of the year...so far!
-
-
AndyMar 31, 200810A really nice album.

-
FelipeP.Mar 31, 200810Their best album since "Automatic For The People."

-
PaulG.Apr 14, 20088This is a solid effort from R.E.M. Their last several offerings have contained points of interest, but they've been somewhat sparse -- and this coming from a die-hard R.E.M. fan. It is good to see the band rocking again, and hearing Michael get back to his "smart and angry " roots.
-
-
StephenD.Apr 14, 20088Not since 1996's New Adventures In Hi-Fi has anyone let alone fans been able to say with honest enthusiasm " hey have you heard the new R.E.M. album". Well thankfully that long wait is now over as Accelerate has R.E.M. back in the spotlight.
-
-
KellyC.May 28, 200810Have been waiting for this "return to form". I actually liked a lot of Up, but Life's Rich Pageant is still my favorite. It sounds very effortless and classic - a most worthy rebirth for this great band.
-
-
SteveOMay 31, 20084When I found out Stippe was gay, it kinda ruined the whole R.E.M. thing for me.

60Accelerate is patchy at best, with only the blaring finale, 'I'm Gonna DJ', really catching the attention.
-
Accelerate is by some considerable distance REM's best and most cohesive album since Berry left, and crucially echoes a time when they made their best music, if not necessarily their biggest-selling.
-
40There are a few jangly throwbacks for nostalgia's sake interspersed throughout Accelerate, but they're overshadowed by blustery guitar blather that shouts "anachronism" at every turn.
