    Todd Snider is not the kind of artist that you can get into by popping his record into your CD player on a sunny day and having a casual listen as you go for a weekend drive. For one, his voice is as full of cracks as your average city sidewalk and his songs combine a highly refined blend of humor, sarcasm, and satire that oftentimes takes at least a few listens to fully appreciate. On Agnostic Hymns and Stoner Fables, Snider offers up a host of biting blues songs that function as a darkly hilarious critique of the social and economic problems facing modern America. Alternating between playfully mocking and downright vitriolic, the songs on this record are Todd turning his highly attuned gift for satire and wordplay to the attention of the greed and dishonesty that have caused such problems for regular folks in America these days.
