JaviMJan 9, 200610Amazing sound. Great songs, they're not all the same so it gives a great feeling to the listener. Plus some of the lyrics are just great

-
joelApr 29, 200610i feel this album is being given less credit than it deserves, a great follow up album to youth and young manhood! slownight so long and day old blues are the highlights of a fantastic album!

-
KimPJun 8, 200610This is one of the albums i never get tired of listening to. Music is supposed to be raw and full of passion, and this album is a perfect display of that. As for Caleb's voice, I think it's beautiful. Perfect voiced singers bore me.

JamieKJun 8, 200610this album deserved to be best album of the year.

patrickDApr 11, 20059Grew up in SF with Butterfield, Hendrix, Cream, Led, Santana. I would say this group is the most exciting group I have heard today. Saw them at the Great American Music Hall on 4/9. Tore the house down. It was quite a mix of young and old. All were appreciative of excellence in rock. They have it down pure, powerful and no bull.

MarioPPPPDec 15, 200410I don't know what the guy who gave it a 4 meant. It sounds really good, it's produced way better (it doesn't sound like Ryan Adams) than the debut record because you can dance to it and it sounds fresher. Some beats have grown, and you can't call 'em "Southern Strokes" anymore because the guitars have their own style right now.

-
Oct 21, 201010there is not one bad song on this album, all the songs fit together like a glove. Caleb talks about not getting it up, taking cocaine, women's nipples and having sex with hookers, he leaves no stone unturned, callsic album.
-
MattCFeb 24, 200510This is an absolutely brilliant album and a great follow-up to their UK debut album. Usually the second album is hard for artists, but Kings Of Leon have mastered the skill with their southern country/rock tones.

-
AlanRFeb 2, 20050Only the most emotionally crippled people with no respect for the original rock legends these guys spunk on could possibly enjoy this.

crunkymccrunkMar 10, 20051i hate these guys darnit!! poser attack!!!
-
-
patricksMar 20, 20059Swashbuckin' stuff from the KoL. This album surpasses their debut. Stacked full of riffs, hooks reminisent of the Stones circa. Exile on Main Street. The album is consistent throughout with only perhaps one or two average songs. The Strokes ort to go to lessons again.

zackgJan 1, 200510This is a spectacular album. Their first was great, but Aha Shake Heartbreak is twice as good. These guys are really good, and hopefully their music is heard by more ears in the future, because people are missing out on some great sound.

-
-
BenJFeb 23, 20058This is a brilliant album that surpasses "Youth & Young Manhood" with ease in my book. It's strengths lie in great songs and brilliant sequencing, so the album reaches constant peaks rather than the usual "load the good songs at the front but let it trail off at the end"

mikekMar 25, 20051garbage...it does have some catchy tunes and hooks but the whole albums is boring...followil sounds like crap, how can anyone think that his voice is good...he sounds like randy newman with add as pitchfork said in their review.
-
-
KOLRoXYeahMar 26, 200510This album definately lives up to it expectations. With amazing songs like 4 Kicks, King of the Rodeo, and Velvet Snow, this alblum is jam-packed with HITS, Calebs vocals are original and addicting to listen to. I campare them to band like The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin. Rock music can be saved and the Kings Of Leon are here to help!
-
-
NymarkMar 8, 20059a disjointed simple complexity that craves attention. this album is an intriguing adventure to say the least. as a recording it holds a lot of heart within its writing, production and performance, live on the other hand?... i'll find that out on the 9th july in newcastle, uk. bring it on.
-
-
AshleyMMar 9, 20059The first album was hard to take. The band was marketed as a southern fried answer to the Strokes, and the album was painfully polished. If they came out of the garage for that album, they went back in for this one. The new album brings to mind Captain Beefheart if he were to embrace Stoner Rock. Definitely a good and if not innovative, very strong album.
-
-
KyleBApr 18, 20059King of Leon are so underrated. It's sad. Just because they're not the most original band ever, doesn't mean they're not enjoyable.

KitTMay 3, 200710One of my favourite albums of all time, 'nuff said...
-
-
WillL.Jun 5, 20079This album has a very live feel, in terms of little overdubs, tracks don't hang around long with the album just about 35 mins. 'The Bucket' and 'King of the Rodeo' are my favourites, it's only flaw is it fizzles out a little near the end.
-
-
nickbNov 25, 200410Easily the finest album I have heard in many many years. Not one bad track it just gets better with every listen. Far superior to there critically acclaimed last outing. For some it may need a couple of listens to trully appreciate. If this is the case for you then stick with it I promise you will not be dissapointed.
-
-
marcocNov 26, 20049a fantastic album. probably the best of the year. anybody who's into r n r must get their hands on this. it's equal if not superior to their preceding album
-
-
tedNov 28, 20044Much worse than the debut record. You won't find here any catchy melodies like the ones in Molly's Chambers or Holy Roller Novocaine. The only song that deserves to receive above-average rating is Razz (and maybe King Of the Rodeo).
-
-
JerrySJan 6, 20051This is the worst and most painful album I have listened to in years. Because of this I have put it up on Ebay to let some other poor unsuspecting mug buy it.

MaggieFeb 21, 200510How con you not love this? Every bit as good as Youth and Young Manhood. You should see them live if you get the chance. The shows are incredible.
-
-
AnthonyFeb 23, 200510This album has it all
-
-
jameshFeb 3, 20059Better than their first. More mature, more interesting, more complex, with each song flowing well into the next. Moves the band out of the simplistic retro southern rock category and more into the indie sphere.

-
DylanEMar 14, 20058I Very much enjoyed this CD, I am pretty new to KOL but it still spurred me to recommend them to all of my friends. Tracks like Milk, The Bucket and Soft are absoloutly Killer tracks, I am hooked.

MattFApr 11, 20059A great unique and enegetic album. Every track makes you want ot get up and dance, and the bucket is perhaps the best song of 2004.
-
-

AngieHMay 16, 200510This album is brilliant, the Kings of Leon are one of the best indie acts yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "Four kicks whos strutting now!"
-

carlosMay 17, 20057ummm....okay album but they still bring good songs.
-
-
TravisSMay 17, 20059I've had this album for about 7 months now and still enjoy it as much as the day I bought it. I think KOL's style isn't anything ground-breaking but is definitely catchy as hell and has a lot of energy.
-
-
BrandonBMay 23, 20057Interesting sounds, good storytelling but good luck understanding it. Lacks the flow and sing-a-long choruses of their debut.
-
-
PaulJMay 31, 200510simply amazing
-
-
DavisWMay 4, 20059A really enjoyable listen, through and through. Not as raw as the debut, but they get the toes tapping more on this one.
-
-
TBoneMJul 12, 20058This album definitely grows on you. Slow Night, So Long is probably the best song on the album. Taper Jean Girl is very good as is The Bucket. This is a good album that is getting sold short by some people. If your ear is used to 80s New Wave retreads, electronic stuff or some other more radio friendly sound, you might have a hard time adjusting.

Nov 7, 201010This album is fantastic, whenever I hear it it reminds me why Only By the Night sucked so bad. Its god damn rock n roll. First three tracks are perfect, and fit together brilliantly
-
Dec 14, 20109Aha Shake Heartbreak is a major improvement from their first album. They slowed down their songs so much so it's an easier and smoother listen. It's a great sound and a wonderful listen. All In All, Aha Shake Heartbreak is a improvement from their fist album. A-

May 7, 201210Kings of Leon made an amazing, if not better, follow-up to Youth and Young Manhood in 2004 with Aha Shake Heartbreak. This is, to me, the last album KOL made in which I love every single song. It starts calmly with Slow Night, So Long but there are a mixture of songs on this album. It is definitely in my top 10 album list, an album everyone should listen to at least once.

Apart from Caleb Followill's distinctive, growly vocals--half-man half-grizzly--this could be a completely different band. A much better band. It's quite an incredible transformation--and I'll say this upfront: it doesn't matter what you thought of their debut, you should listen to this album.
-
It would seem from the evidence presented here that [King Of Leon] are intent on rebuilding themselves from scratch, drawing on whatever wild and wonderful influences they've tripped over in their race to live five lifetimes in every day. [30 Oct 2004, p.63]

With shorter, tighter songs far more reminiscent of 80's post-punk than Southern AOR, Aha Shake Heartbreak can only be considered a pleasant surprise.
