Some instant hits, together with some growers make for a 10 out 12 net result for me, which ain't bad at all. You should give this one a go.

Their best collection of songs. Would've given it 9 out of 10 but the qulaity of the sound engineering is not as good as it should've been. If Electric Soft Parade can do it in their bedroom, bloody Jim Abbiss should be able to!

Music for me is heavily based on the album itself. For me this is one of those albums that stands out on its toes and points its wicked little fingers out at you... hearing Clearlake's Amber for me was like discovering Modest Mouse for the first time. A secret treasure....waiting to be stumbled upon. A must have for my collection!

Their third album sees them toughening up some, with much of their whimsical dreaminess tramped underfoot in their seeming desire to become a more conventional, NME-friendly, rock band. [Feb 2006, p.81]
  2. "Amber"'s glow increases with each listen, but existing fans have just cause to feel forsaken.
  3. Clearlake got it right this time out. They have has never sounded as triumphant as they do on Amber.
