[Anxiety] retains all the best things about her debut while expanding on both her sound and style.
  2. There's nothing on Anxiety so arrestingly new or comfortably familiar.

The result is a buzzsaw-sharp pop-rock album, full of hard-charging hooks, with one foot toe-tapping in 1978 and the other planted firmly in 2012.

With this second solid Ladyhawke winner, she proves you can make them sing.

It's a great pop record with plenty of guts and a sense of reality that is so often missing from records that sound this fun.

Anxiety is as tight and catchy as a baseball mitt.

While it fails to better its predecessor, Anxiety is a mature, personal and vulnerable release that is both a brave and natural evolution for an undoubtedly talented artist.

Pip retains the sizzling electronics and soaring melodies of her first offering, but delivers them like a sultry wrong'un wracked with self doubt, battering drums and attacking every guitar she can lay her hands on.

These are not tunes created with an eye on the top of the charts, but it only takes about four bars to realize that they should be up there. [No.86, p.56]

Anxiety's songwriting is top-notch--substantial and precise, without sacrificing accessibility or originality. [Apr 2012, p.96]

To be fully honest, it is a bit of a let down considering this is what was produced after a 4 year wait. Some parts of the album kind of run together and sound the same but other than those two flaws, the album is fantastic. The way she crafts her music makes you want to get up and dance, even on the ballad, and the best track on the album, "Cellophane". I think that people who fell in love with her first album will need some convincing to love this one but it isn't a far reach. Ladyhawke is still in there, it's just a more mature and less commercial sound. Full Review »
