Master producer J. Robbins deserves some credit for the band's audibly broadened horizons. [No. 94, p.60]

Apocryphon stomps with familiar, even comforting, satisfaction.

The fact that the real Black Sabbath are currently in the studio makes this fell more like a curtain-raiser than the real event. [10 Nov 2012, p.55]

They're relatively simple things to be sure, but they've been crafted with love and authority before being chiselled in stone so that they may yet last certain discerning metallers a lifetime.

While Apocryphon might be the band's push toward the future, let it also exist as a funeral dirge for the band's more vibrant and rule-breaking past. [Nov 2012, p.94]
  6. Nov 2, 2012
The bottom line here is that for all of their tweaks and changes, The Sword are still a band all about massive riffs and epic lyrics, and while other bands might be more structurally complex or aggressive, few can offer the instant cosmic journey that dropping the needle on Apocryphon can.
  7. 70
It's heavy metal distilled to its purest form.
  8. Nov 1, 2012
The vocal hooks and song-writing on Apocryphon is better than ever.

This album changed my mind about metal being dead. This album is so solid from beginning to end it is a diamond in the rough that many never find. The singers voice is amazing, but he could easily be written a ticket by the music police for sounding exactly like Ozzy... which if you think about it isn't a bad thing in any way (ref. "Veil of Isis"). Additionally I saw them in concert and all the songs from their new album play really well live. Full Review »

I am wondering have Ozzy and Tony Iommi been listening to The Sword lately? I
