Summary
Definitely not your typical blink-182 album, this eponymous release finds the once-juvenile band finally showing a mature side, and winning critics over in the process. The Cure's Robert Smith guests on one track.

Entertainment Weekly
Despite their newfound earnestness, [blink] seem incapable of pretension. [21 Nov 2003, p.82]
Spin
A dark, emotionally intense record, best experienced on headphones. [Jan 2004, p.97]
Blender
Blink-182 have found a new, angrier way to never leave junior high. [Dec 2003, p.135]
Village Voice
I miss the penis jokes, I sincerely do, but when life's little fuckups sound like cosmic conundrums--and here I'm referring not just to the new disc's big choruses but, more importantly, to its snaking structures and unrelentingly urgent harmonies--now-and-then comparisons fail.

Maturity suits these guys: Five albums into their career, it sounds like they're just getting warmed up.

Blink-182 is a challenging listen, although not for the reasons one usually associates with Blink-182.

The disc does meander in spots, and its most achingly sincere love songs become cloying, but it's easy to both enjoy and appreciate Blink-182's effort and evolution, especially when hooky pleasures continue to function as its primary stock in trade.

The heart of the album sticks closely to their well-tried formula: sing-song melodies and puerile lyrics set against a steady backdrop of numbingly bland riffage. [Jan 2004, p.106]
Q Magazine
The majority of material... is forgettable. [Dec 2003, p.118]

Emil L. gave it a10:
This may not be their greatest album, but all songs are interesting and have something that make them very good to listen.
Evan B. gave it a10:
A lot of critics could never take blink-182 seriously because they presented themselves as young adults who never really wanted to mature. However, boxcar racer really set tom up to start writing darker material. Their last album is a classic because bands have been trying to match it ever since and haven't been able to. This album really reset the bar in the pop-punk genre. Compared to the new crap that's out now by the academy is... and all those bands, blink-182 is an unbeatable force. If critics were to shed all of their past impressions of this band and give the album a chance and see it at face value, they'd understand all of this.
Suleiman M gave it an8:
A great ending for a great band.
Cuyler F. gave it a10:
Wow! It seems like theyr'e songs have really matured. And the Instrumentals are great, the songs are a lot deeper. They are easier to listen to. My favorite songs on the album are Down Obvious Violence and Alwways. Still my favorite album of all time! Blink better get back together.
taylor s. gave it a10:
