Entertainment Weekly
Though not every track is a gem, The Dutchess reaches further than most albums by contemporary divas.

This is one of the most rambunctiously entertaining and high-spirited records of 2006. [Dec 2006, p.108]
The Phoenix
An eclectic, danceable collection of hip-hop, R&B, and pop confections.

Where the likes of [Gwen] Stefani and co manage to tie eclectic albums together with the strength of their personality, Fergie never actually comes close to showing what she really sounds like, leaving "The Dutchess" as an exceptionally random R&B mixtape.

Basically, if London Bridge doesn't make you want to rip your ears off, you'll enjoy almost 80 per cent of the album.
Fergie is talented enough to compete with the likes of Gwen Stefani and Christina Aguilera, but the material on The Dutchess won't take her to those heights.

The problem is the Duchess herself. Fergie exudes earthy charm, but can't keep up with the breakneck music. She forces emotion on the slower show-stoppers, and she's all cartoon kitten on the come-ons. [17 Sep 2006]
Slant Magazine
The album too often seems to be striving to display diversity at the expense of artistry.

She keeps the tone light and playful, but her shopaholic-hottie raps seem written for someone with less emotional baggage. [Nov 2006, p.145]
Vibe
When [Fergie] nails it--as she does about half the time on her genre-jumbling solo debut--the result is strange pop that successfully blurs the thin line between annoying and alluring. [Nov 2006, p.160]
The New York Times
It’s essentially a Black Eyed Peas album with two fewer rappers. That’s an improvement: two down, two to go. [18 Sep 2006]
PopMatters
Fergie prances, preens, moans, talks and raps, but the result is canned and sterile.

Mic L gave it an8:
Altought this album is not perfect, it has really great and catchy songs on it. There is only 4 tracks that are not really good. But all the rest is great and well-produced. For a first solo album, it's really cool.
xsassysays gave it a10:
The mixed reviews show how controversial Fergie's music and image are, which is part of its appeal. Exceptionally unique album. Fergie is too edgy to be written off as a mere pop princess.
J B gave it an8:
1st off - if a review is to be posted, spell correctly. It diminishes credibility when the spelling is on the 1st grade level. Secondly, as far as POP albums go, I thought this album easily met all the necessary criteria to be justified as a very entertaining album and is worthy of an 8 at the very least.
[Anonymous] gave it a3:
For a woman who can obviously sing I am disapointed with this album. She could do so much better. Stop trying to be an R&B/Hip Hopper and make some decent music. It's is sad sad to waste her talents on some of the most boring "Songs?" of all time. Finally and BGDC are 10 out of 10, however, the rest of the album is mediocre and empty emotionally at best...
Edward H gave it a0:
Man diz album so like totally blowz of Krappynezz She talks rather, den singz and when she does sing it sounds like a jackhammer goin' off, loud and irritatin' and she completely wrecked the Peas when she joined. I have luv for Will.I.AM Appel, and my all time fav Taboo but no luv for her. Tha Peas should have released Taboo or Appel in solo albums sted of da no talent yucky singin' Fergie. Dude she is soooo bad it hurts. Tha Muzik is for peepz wit Talents not No Talents Get It Rite!
Yahir B gave it a10:
This is a great album her vocals are pretty good, better than others. Some of her songs are very rythmic and catchy right away. Others are slow bringing Oldies back a little bit. The meaning of the songs gives the album a 10, without these I would have given an 8 or 9.
[Anonymous] gave it an8:
Anyone who buys Fergie's album will not regret it. Most of the music on the album is great, but some of the songs like "Here I Come", which had great beat but she was trying too hard, "Velvet", which was completely boring, and "Pedestal", which was weird, all needed some more work. However, overall, the album is grand.
