Village Voice
The album's darn spooky good... Shelving the old Green Day wall of guitars (Dookie and Insomniac) in favor of the youngest (and best) Pete Townshend mod-clanky buzz opens up the band's sound dramatically; it's airy and spacious, lots of room for the vocals. The whole thing breathes with neat ambiences.

Warning may not only be the most beautiful Green Day LP but also the bravest. [#48, p.93]
All Music Guide
Warning may not be an innovative record, per se -- it's a pop album through and through -- but it's tremendously satisfying, finding the band at a peak of songcraft and performance. There hasn't been a better pure pop album since Supergrass' In It for the Money, another record by a young band that did it all and did it without a trace of self-consciousness.

Green Day has never made a record so slick and musically mature.

At first, it may sound void of the instantly accessible pile of hits from Dookie and the handful more from Insomniac, but the album's social conscience and cunning lyrics make it a Warning to be heeded.
Billboard
The California-based trio continues its exploration of more straight-ahead rock and pop with surprisingly strong results.

Green Day remain the ultimate big-shorts party band. [Nov. 2000, p.116]
Spin
By design, the band doesn't rock as hard as it used to. Doesn't punk as hard as it used to, either. [12/2000, p.215]
Rolling Stone
The once-giddy melodies now settle for midtempo jangle or novelty...

Hugely likeable, terribly noisy and cute, as well as being jammed with proper pop songs... [Nov. 2000, p.102]
Sonicnet
Green Day's melodies are as delicious as ever, and the band continues to integrate acoustic guitar into its sound without getting all granola on us. But as a songwriter, Armstrong's neither here nor there, unable to fully abandon his goofball roots but not stretching far enough to score the breakaway great album he's always seemed capable of writing.

You're going to have to dig through a barrage of radio-ready songs to find the excitement of previous albums.

The Day's trademark bubblegum punk rock guitars have all been turned down in favour of a less electric, more organic sound. Where once they rocked out, now they polka on the awful Levellers-like 'Fashion Victim' - a song about Gianni Versace. Please.... 'Warning' is the sound of a band losing its way.

Jack S gave it a7:
Warning shows us a side to Green Day that no body expected. The refreshing acoustics and melodies of each song on this album are not to be knocked. Hats off to Green Day, as even though it is not as good as there hugely successful Dookie, they decided to take a new route in their music and not simply re-hash Dookie, like I am sure many other rock bands would have done if they were in Green Day's situation.
sydney o gave it a9:
To me green day is still punk. but they are not hard core punk like the sex pistols or other bands. green day has the right sound in the middle of alternative and punk. this album is not punk to what other ppl think but they did a great job on the songs though. i will love green day no matter what!
Hannah F gave it a10:
An amazing record. Every single song is great.
Colin B gave it an8:
This is probably not the best work by Green Day. It's just a little too on the poppy side, but it still is fun, melodic, and innovative for green day. This cd helped them broaden their musical horizon, but it may not be taken well by hard core green day fans. But a track like "minority" goes back more to their punk rock roots. This is not a bad album by any means.
Sam D gave it a5:
too pop not enough punk. lyrics occasionally good. song Warning sux like nothing i've ever heard before from green day, except 'take back' (nimrod) what the hell happened to billie joe lyrics here?
Allen B gave it a 5:
Green Day's "Dookie" was the perfect punk album, brash and completely original. Since then, they have slipped into the more comfortable pop genre and decided that it's ok for all their songs to sound exactly alike. Standouts on this disk - "Minority" and the darkly intriguing "Misery" - are overshadowed by the twenty-odd minutes of crap that string them together. Don't waste your money.
Matt N gave it a 9:
Greenday brought out warning to alot of critisism about it being a departure from there earlyier days, so what?? no band stays the same forever this album is compiled with great songs that consistantly bring a smile to my face. Theres not many albums as good as this being brought out nowadays!!
