All Music Guide

If some of the ballads aren't as distinguished as the livelier tracks, they nevertheless are as sharply crafted as the rest, and the end result is that It Won't Be Soon Before Long is that rare self-stylized blockbuster album that sounds as big and satisfying as was intended.

Dot Music

Maroon 5 are the new Police, the new U2: a wildly exciting rock band who understand how to make great pop music that works everywhere from the bedroom and the iPod to the radio and the stadium.

Sputnikmusic

These are all songs that you would have trouble getting out of your head, and It Won’t Be Soon Before Long is the second coming and establishing factor of Maroon 5 as the pop band of the century thus far.

Los Angeles Times

An icy-hot blend of electro-funk and blue-eyed soul that works its cruel streak with the confidence of Daniel Craig's James Bond.

Entertainment Weekly

There's not a lot to fall deeply in love with here, but Levine and crew understand the importance of packing as much thrill as possible into each tryst, leaving you with mostly good feelings and no lasting emotional scars.

Billboard

The slick, hyperproduced "It Won't Be Soon Before Long" is a set of 12 potential hits, all mashes of groove and guitar firepower. [26 May 2007]

70

Rolling Stone

The only surprising thing about It Won't Be Soon Before Long is its complete avoidance of sophomore slump.

Blender

The cocky songs mask a lot of misery. [Jun 2007, p.107]

Boston Globe

The tunes... are uniformly strong, and the playing and production neatly manicured, if a bit dense in places. But the lyrics are spotty at best.

Spin

The only misstep is frontman Adam Levine's raunchy lyrics. [Jun 2007, p.94]

NOW Magazine

If you're only into the band for the music, then this will be a solid purchase – it's far more polished and focused than Songs About Jane. Lyrically, though, this album gets tired fast.

Stylus Magazine

Were the album as sleek and steely as “Makes Me Wonder,” we would be crowning and mitering Maroon 5 as master purveyors of white-boy funk.

Village Voice

There's nothing wrong with making music for tweens, or lighter-lofting boomers. It's simply a matter of execution, and here these chums are scattered and grasping.

Playlouder

Listen to this record and you realise that by comparison, Robbie Williams does actually have some soul. And if that's not a damning indictment of one of the most execrable records you're likely to hear this decade, I don't know what is.

Karl E. gave it a10:
This is by far the best album I have heard in my entire life.

Julia A. gave it a3:
the music's lukewarm, that I can stand. but I can't stand the lyrics.it's official now that Adam Levine has gone as a lust-maniac.apparently he can't write songs if he hadn't broke up with girls or had laid them.

Simon S gave it a0:
This is terrible, horribly overproduced, someone at work had this playing the other day and it sent shivers down my spine.

Windy W gave it a5:
I loved the fist Albumb Songs about Jane but I hate there new stuff it sounds like every other premiered band featured on MTV for one month.

J C gave it a2:
Quite simply, if you're the sort of person that cannot praise a record without constant spelling/grammatical mistakes (see below) then yeah, this record is probably for you. Those of us that can actually THINK are looking for a little more...

Leon A gave it a10:
This is one of the best albums of 2007, i agree completely with the poster below me that the only mistep is kiwi, and can't stop as well i think lol. If i never see your face again, makes me wonder and wake up call are pure party songs. Won't go home without you, Nothing lasts forever, Not Falling apart, Better that we break, back at your door are all beautifully written love songs that WILL stand the test of time, and you wil find yourself falling in love with them instantly. and goodnight goodnight is going to be their number 1 hit, and will also be the single that propels their album to multiplatinum status (if it isn't already) if they ever decide to release it! Don't even get me started on the "BONUS TRACK" infatuation which is in fact better than 90% of rock music out right now. This is an album that ANY maroon 5 or ANY fan of popular music will enjoy. the lyrics are so well composed and "sing alongable" it wouldn't be a stretch to call it the karaoke album of 2007 as well. In summation, don't believe the haters saying this album sucks, it is well worth the 15 bucks it costs after listening to this, i can understand why it took them so long to release a sophmore album. With quality like this who can blame them!

Mike M gave it a10:
I don't know what you people are talking about.this album is a 10 out of ten. It's a pure dance mood album. It's way more mature than Songs about Jane and shows absolute voacl prowess. The one mistep is Kiwi, but the rest of the songs (Goodnight Goodnight with the slight Kryptonite guitar at the start),like Wakeup Call, are instant classics for radio.
