All Music Guide
The change does the Godfrey brother's music good, bringing it more in line with the Morcheeba name and the masterful good songs/good vibes combination that made their first two full-lengths so haunting.

Perfect background music for those late-night venues that tend to overdo the ultra-violet lights. [Mar 2008, p.96]

It also feels like they've become a little too cosy in their favourite slippers, so that while Dive Deep is a pleasant album, it swims in familiar and safe waters.

Q Magazine
The results may inevitably resemble a compilation, but the calm, luxurious and emotional Dive Deep is their most satisfying outing since they stopped being famous. [Mar 2008, p.107]

PopMatters
This album has no focus, so the instrumentals are left hanging on like scabby Band-Aids after a swim.

The Onion (A.V. Club)
Morcheeba's existence points out everything Air does right--both are calm and inoffensive enough to serve as dinner music, but only one aspires to more.

Mojo
This is musical wheatgrass juice: wholesome, virtous, but ultimately fun-free. [Mar 2008, p.115]

The Morcheeba sound is it's own yet there seems to be a bit octupus's garden and rock lobster or even Talking Heads' Once in a Life Time, with those lyrics... "Letting the days go by/let the water hold me down Letting the days go by/water flowing underground Into the blue again/after the money's gone Once in a lifetime/water flowing underground Have Morcheeba been listening to the Beatles, Talking Heads or B52s for this outing. Morcheeba offer another point of view of the dark water to us inteligent self absorbed types who spend our cherished moments being creative. Morcheeba are wet when we are dry. I liked this CD. In "DIVE DEEP" Morcheeba have created melencholy from the light and towards the darkness as a concept. Just start with the cover art. From the bottem of the dark ocean a diver has a flashlight on a school of fish and we're looking to flickers of skylight or as Oscar Wilde put it over a hundred years ago, "We are all in the gutter but only some of us are looking at the stars". Do you see the light or darkness? Are Morceeba exploring a water vampire b-movie here? Monsters and calmness are a seductive metaphore for us mere mortals. In these times of war and political uncertainty at least it's all an escape. Under the water....going down, down, down. No Rock Lobster? live under the water put forward and the haunting calm voice persuding. Read the lyrics and here were some of my favourite lines. Song 1, "Enjoy the Ride" has this vampire meets the Beatle's Octupus's Garden thing happening... Lyrics like,"Shut the gates at sunset after that you can't get out"; then, "Stop chasing shadows, just enjoy the ride" was this a reference to "I'd like to be...under the sea in an octupus's garden from the Beatles when they sing "In a garden full of angels, you won't be alone" to remind us we're still amongst beauty and maybe John and George are there? and finally the sinker, "It's a room that's full of nothing, no blood underneath your skin". Ahhh Blue Oyster Cult or what? I want to suck your blood. Song 2 "Riverbed" shows empathy towards ecology & philosophy and taking a rest on a riverbed...My goodness I would be drowning if I was resting on a riverbed. Song 3, "Thumbnails" is a calm instrumental setting a tone for the next great song for those vampires. Song 4, "Run Honey Run" "I wish I could fly like a bat from a cave from the darkness of my ignorance to the light" Song 4 "Gained the World" It's vampire like with "Easy prey on display I'm feeling weak. I've gained the world and lost my soul. Maybe it's because I'm getting old." Dracula has been around for a long long while and chasing those mortal's for blood and lust. Song 5 "One Love Karma" a great peaceful song and the sample of "Ease Back" is just enough for me to get me...ease back!. Song 6 "Au-dela" French song and probably really important lyrical content but a good song..colors, moon and the sun? Song 7 "Blue Chair" another warm up to big comfortable chairs and hug me number...aahhhh it was fun while it lasted. Song 8 "Sleep on it Tonight" you're getting tired...Look into my Eyes and Fall in love..I mean a sleep...take it slow and let it grow honey. Song 9 "The Ledge Beyond the Edge" another instrumental to take you down. 10 "Washed Away" This one sounds like "Rome wasn't built in a Day". Hey if you like Faithless or Massive Attack then get this one. It's going to put you to sleep...and wake up to Rock Lobster...Girls on surfboards, Boys in bikini's! What happened? Where was I? Is this some kind of crazy dream? Is someone watching me? Hands held to the sky. Morcheeba's work is done.
