Uncut

Unsettling stuff--but weirdly life-affirming, too. [May 2007, p.103]

80

musicOMH.com

The Nightwatchman is a Molotov cocktail as volatile as any he’s thrown at the barricade of injustice in the past 15 years.

Entertainment Weekly

A combination of his rich vocals and hook-filled tunes ensures that the heartfelt result rarely seems like a harangue. [27 Apr 2007, p.141]

70

Rolling Stone

Morello's baritone voice is surprisingly expressive.

The real discovery is that he's capable of making the same old racket at just a fraction of the volume.

Billboard

Morello shows us that he's a) a facile acoustic guitar player, too, b) a better than serviceable singer and c) an intelligent and passionate social commentator and protest singer. [28 Apr 2007]

70

Hartford Courant

This is agitprop the old-fashioned way.

Alternative Press

At times, the album gets a little precious, but the more inspired moments are truly undeniable. [Jun 2007, p.156]

60

Hot Press

The potency of the admirable sentiments is undermined by the lacklustre execution.

Under The Radar

Morello handles these stark songs with the calm confidence and strong conviction that bears the mark of a man who has spent his share of time on the front lines. [Summer 2007, p.91]

New Musical Express

Despite his surprisingly palatable baritone, this remains an album you won't want to listen to more than once.

Scott O. gave it a10:
People. who say this music suck must the mental capability of a fucking flea b/c this stuff is good and has message behind its a lot like Bob Dylan back 60's in my opinion we need this type of music back now more than ever.

John A gave it a0:
Lyrics: Bad Guitar: Sloppy Vocals: Oh my god! Come back Chris for heaven's sake! It doesn't have a single one of the three pilars of a good album. I'm a Tom Morello fan but this is possibly the worst sounding album I've ever heard. I love to stack my itunes with as much music as possible just for the sake of having it on file but this I might just have to discard, yes, it's that bad. If you like Rage or Audioslave, then keep listening because this is a dead end (nomatter what your into)

Big Al gave it a5:
I love Tom Morello's work with Rage Against the Machine, but The Nightwatchman falls a little short for me. As expected, the guitar mechanics are stellar, but the vocals...well, there's something missing there. Sounds like Dylan without the eccentricity or poetic talent. Nice try by an otherwise great musician, though.

Tim O. gave it a0:
This is a terrible, cheesy album which lacks variety and diversity

Dan R gave it a10:
Anyone who was ever a fan of Audio Slave is a slave to the radio..."Turn on the Radio, naw fuck it...turn it off" The Nightwatchman is awesome, relaxing yet disturbing music, Not the strongest singer but his lyrics are Syd Barrett-esque with their rhyming and to the point behaviours. Short sweet and to the point, not drawn out like some over artistic poet which pollutes our air ways these days (emo anyone?) Our generations Johnny Cash? Bob Dylan? Only time will tell. The Nightwatchman has arrived, and if you don't appreciate it, you yourself are an "Audio Slave"

Shane B. gave it a0:
I've been a fan of both Rage and Audioslave for a long time, but this shit is just the fucking pits. "The road that i must travel, its end i cannot see" WHAT A FUCKING LOAD OF SHIT

Nick M. gave it an8:
Very solid showing.
