Entertainment Weekly
She's as comfortable sighing like a muted horn as she is wailing in big-band fashion--though it's the infusion of tenderness in her homespun tales that seals the CD's lasting appeal. [3 Sep 2004, p.74]
91
Village Voice (Consumer Guide)
Rarely do the settings distinguish themselves.... But a distinct voice delivering noticeable verbal content is a setting too--that's why you notice the content.

Q Magazine
Her voice is versatile, the beats delicioiusly languid, but it's the songwriting that shines. [Oct 2004, p.129]
88
Los Angeles Times
It's largely a tour de force that speaks of love and life with an honesty and clarity recalling the optimism of Curtis Mayfield and the occasional dismay of Marvin Gaye. [5 Sep 2004]

Vibe
She's both deeply personal and relevantly dope, thriving where poetry slams and hip hop beats collide. [Sep 2004, p.231]
80
The Guardian
Though it sags a bit over the course of 72 minutes, the effect is that of being sung to privately by a vocalist who has mastered the art of intimacy.

New Musical Express
Crisp, rolling rap beats and lush instrumentation. Lyrically, ... she's brutally honest about sex and her failings with men. [11 Sep 2004, p.55]
76
ShakingThrough.net
Buffs the rough edges of Words & Sounds, Vol. 1 but sacrifices some of that record's spirited adventurousness.

Village Voice
Beautifully Human isn't quite the conceptual masterpiece it strives to be: Too often, the music falls short of Scott's lyrical brilliance.

Though not every track works, Scott still remains at the top of her game.

Simon S gave it a4:
Her failings with men are due to the fact that she is ridiculously shallow and has unrealistic expectations about men. Her lyrics are soooo irritating! Its well crafted music but I just can't get past her lyrics.

Nse E gave it a 10:
Not as great as her debut in my opinion, but still a brilliant and outstanding cd. Lyrically, she is still up there as is evident on the superb 'Cross my mind' and 'Family reunion'. Other standouts are 'Rasool', the semi-operatic 'Still there', 'Whatever', the jazzy 'Talk to me', 'Bedda at home' and 'Golden'. Classy, joyous, soulful!

Vish D gave it a 9:
Shocking album, perfect lyrical content...sweet vibes all the way through. Overall, this album is really quite amazing.

Bridget J gave it a 9:
I don't know if it is too early to say vintage Jill Scott with this being only her second album... but I'll say it anway, VINTAGE JILL SCOTT!!!!!

Vanessa V gave it a 9:
It's real relaxing. She displays such a mellow madness with her style.

F A gave it a 10:
I'm still sitting, can't wake up

EJ Johnson gave it an 8:
This is a beautiful album and offers a refreshing break from the highly sampled, synthetic music coming from the hip-hop world today. Jill Scott has not lost her touch, and is romantic and cleaver as ever in her interaction with the music. The problem is, coming on the hills of the highly successful, and now classic, Who Is Jill Scott (Words and Sounds Vol. 1), the words are there, but the sounds are just not as compelling as they were on the first album. The music just don't move me like on the first album. Few songs stand out as major hits. However, it's a wonderful album altogether, and thank God she didn't make a dreadful sophmore set like Erykah Badu did.
