  • Summary: The Icelandic band is quite a bit different from the one that released 1999's varied 'This Is Normal,' losing most of its members and changing its name (now, officially, "gusgus") and record label in the interim. Now consisting of just 4 members--three DJs and a new vocalist--gusgus offer up a more focused sound on 'Attention,' which tends toward stripped-down electronica and early-'80s electro sounds. Expand
Score distribution:
  1. Positive: 5 out of 9
  2. Negative: 0 out of 9
  1. The most potent and cohesive album of its career.
  2. Occasionally, the album's spare, simple approach feels chilly and monotonous, but when it all comes together, as on the percolating, insistent "Your Moves Are Mine,"Attention reveals itself as a stylish, strangely romantic collection of club music.
  3. Continues in the GusGus tradition of decent, thinking-man's dance music.
  4. 60
The well-produced sheen of Gusgus' biggest club hits may be gone, but longtime fans should be open-minded enough to accept these mostly interesting, and danceable, explorations of techno's funky roots. [Sep 2002, p.80]
