    With each effort, BJM continue a transcendence from their early days feigning the swagger of their namesake's band toward a more complex realization; Aufheben is certainly no different.

    Newcombe is a master at turning the minimal into maximal, layering myriad swirling textures into a dizzying head-rush of a tune (see: "Seven Kinds of Wonderful"), but crafty production only takes him so far.

Like his idols Lou Reed and David Bowie Anton Newcombe searched for inspiration in Berlin and judging by the outcome this has worked well for him. A good mix of 60's eastern influenced songs, krautrock and shoegaze are found on this album. Highlights on this album for me are Viholliseni Maalla with a young Finnish singer, I Want To Hold Your Other Hand and The Clouds Are Lies.… Expand
