While Coco and Hannibal are doing it a little less softly now, they're still killing 'em.

If the self-titled debut was the unobtrusive introduction, Avalanche represents the showy breakthrough the duo have been angling for.

What Avalanche may lack in immediacy, it makes up for with the gloss and professionalism that coats each of its songs like a gossamer gown. The quality of Hannibal’s handiwork and the sheer passion of Coco’s vocals speak for themselves.

The electronic soul band toes the fine line between club cuts and after-hours ballads.

The sound is full, with fat synths, string instruments, and horns. But the strings don’t sweep and swirl, they sigh and deflate; the horns thicken but do not punch.

Avalanche’s obsessive squeaky cleanness keeps its audience at a distance. Coco might insist that she’s still looking for trouble, but there’s none to be found on Avalanche.

Weighted by retro production that gets bogged down in neo-soul moves reminiscent of Sade, though, inspiration flickers throughout without ever reaching full illumination. [Jun 2014, p.118]

Even then, Quadron's Avalanche stands not only at the forefront of those genres, but ranks as a very good album by any standard. From the Coco O's expertly crafted vocals, the lush arrangements, some particularly ambitious songwriting, incredibly versatile production, and the outright magnetism of these songs, Avalanche is something else. It is a prime example of where quality meets accessibility. This is a cohesive, thoughtful, catchy, and rather endearing listen. Definitely recommended. Expand

Adding a stronger production only made the sound more mature and susceptible to positive growth as artists. The only pitfall comes with the lyrical simplicity not matching with Coco O.'s never-ending range. The next step is to continue honing on the writing, and everything else will fall into place. Expand
