I would say Eric Clapton is my all time favourite artist, and definately my favourite blues musician along with John Lee Hooker, however, I feel his new material on this album feeds too much from his domestic life. His previous work proves he has opinions. Maybe he's just running dry on things to say these days. Oh well. The guitar playing is still sharp, though. The only song I felt that stood out was "piece of my heart". It is the only song I will remember from this album in a years time. CLAPTON IS GOD *wee dog* Expand

It is only natural to become more reserved with age. However, when this condition afflicts a blues guitartist of Clapton's caliber we are left a album lacking passion. Clapton has described himself as a journeyman, honing his skills as a guitarist over the years. Something is awry when the closing years of the journey lack heat and passion. The skill of slowhand is as good as ever; It is only natural to become more reserved with age. [An] overblown and underwhelming batch of MOR gruel. [2 Sep 2005, p.81]

Yet heartfelt as his sentiments may be, the songs are a letdown: there's neither angst nor exaltation, just tidiness. [29 Aug 2005]
  3. A couple of indiscretions taint the disc, but hey, nobody's perfect.
