    Daughtry has never allowed Daughtry to be silly before this record. This relative lightness makes a big difference--it also helps that the music itself is relatively nimble--and, ultimately, this turns Baptized into the best album he or his band has made.

    The sound on Baptized somehow links U2 to Rascal Flatts, adding Springsteen stances in "Wild Heart." More unexpectedly, there's also a banjo shuffle.

    It sounds like Daughtry's been listening to a lot of Train and EDM, or at least the band's manager has, because the tempos are a bit peppier than the normal plodding 80bpm post-grunge yawning we're used to, and all of it is slathered with super-slick, edge-sanding modern-pop production, including the surprisingly liberal use of Auto-Tune.

This album does have a kind of pop/folk vibe to it, but Chris still has a rock music voice and it stands out in this album. He is a fantastic singer and songwriter. There isn't a bad track on this album. There is a decent amount of potential singles on this album, so I'll be looking forward to when they are released as singles. This could possibly be their best album to date.… Expand

It's obvious that they were trying to do something different, but the problem is that it sounds too similar to bands like Lifehouse or Maroon 5. Seriously, 'Waiting for Superman' IS a Lifehouse song but with worse lyrics, and I'm not really sure Chris' voice fits that song. And honestly, Chris has such a great and powerful voice that I think they should try to aim higher than that. While they succeed with songs like 'High Above The Ground', 'Broken Arrows', 'Traitor' and 'Baptized' they fail in everything else. And it's not just the music, but the lyrics too.

Baptized just sounds like they're trying so hard to be someone else. They don't want to be post-grunge band anymore. It sucks! Every rock band is going into pop sound and the worse thing is most of them suck at it. There's repetition, boring sounds, stupid lyrics and pretentious music. Stay away from it. It's distinctive edge lends itself well to harder rock type music, and his debut showed great promise, which makes listening to this bland, generic amalgamation of Maroon 5 and Matchbox 20 reject tunes nothing but a disappointment. Each song blends with the last, with cheesy lyrics, overuse of Auto-Tune, and a complete lack of anything resembling sonic creativity. Back to the drawing board for Daughtry, in my opinion.… Expand
