  • Summary: This is the much-blogged-about first album for the Baltimore duo of Alex Scally and Victoria Legrand.
Score distribution:
  1. Positive: 9 out of 14
  2. Negative: 0 out of 14
  1. Beach House’s debut is consistently candlelit, worn at its lacy edges, and at once vertiginous and embracing, somehow residing both at the hearth and on an icy precipice.
  2. Bands like Mazzy Star, Galaxie 500, Spiritualized, and Slowdive will come to mind, but this is neither pastiche nor homage.
  3. Getting used to the lethargic pace of Beach House takes some doing, but it's well worth the effort.
  4. Beach House is the perfect accompaniment for an introspective day, or night, of watching the globules of a lava lamp slowly float and sink.
  5. Ultimately, Beach House is a mood piece, finding a specific tone and lingering there for its entirety.
  6. Finding the best bits in these sleepy songs often feels like hard work.
